Yesterday the league lanes were bone dry. Even the traditional puddle in the middle of the lane was dry. It did not matter where you threw the ball it always returned without any, None, Nada oil tracks on the ball.
The Phaze 2 and the Black Widow were both hook monsters and very hard to control. No matter what I did the amount of hook did not change. The only ball that I was using that was predictable with my Storm Ice spare ball. No matter what the conditions are the ice is straight as an arrow.
I may have missed an opportunity to throw the ice as my strike ball by playing a straight shot with a little bit of angle going into the pocket. My question to the group is....Have you ever used your straight arrow sjpare ball as a strike ball? I just did not consider it until last night sitting at home licking my wounds inflicted by awful performance in League. FYI many of my peers were having the same trouble to include a much larger amount of splits for all of us. Heck, I even had back to back 7-10 splits to end the second game. One was a light pocket hit and one was a solid pocket hit. I would have expected tis with a nose hit bu that was not the deal, followed by two other splits (not 7-10) to begin game 3. Game 3 splits were high hits and deserved to be splits.
As we were finishing up league play the lane guy was getting the oiler ready to begin the lane conditioning process. I asked him when the lanes were last conditioned and he responded by saying Three days ago.

Re: Mega Dry Lanes ?
I have definitely used a spare ball for strikes on the burn in both league and in a PBA tournament. It is not very fun unless everyone is having a challenging time together.
Have you tried a high RG, low differential pearl ball? They are a bit harder to find these days, but I have used this on a second shift league on the burn with great results. The ball I had was like a 2.63 RG with a 0.2 differential (Storm Big Hit Pearl). It would float through dry heads and make a move late to the pocket. The Track Tundra Fire (2.561 RG, 0.3 diff) is probably the closest to that, but the new one has HK22. Not sure if that is too strong a cover. The old one on closeout may be better for that. Take a look around at all the ball companies and see how high on the RG and how low on the Diff you can find with not too strong a cover. Perhaps a Brunswick Twist (2.591 RG, 0.018 Diff) would be an option with a weaker cover.
