Layouts for Speed Dominant Bowleer

Post by Deerehunter »

Greetings all:

I have done a little work (measured bowling specs, changed bowling ball grip and surface) with a bowler that thrives on dry wood lanes. He gained well over 10 pins by changing the surface of the ball and has the highest average in the house over three leagues by a substantial margin. When he ventures on to wetter synthetic lanes, he struggles. His specs are as follows: PAP 6 1/4 over by 5/8 up, 22* axis tilt, 40-45* axis rotation, 18.5 mph (camera frames over 15 feet), and 180 rpm. I realize he is extremely speed dominant. I don't see him making massive changes to his game, especially with the success he enjoys on the "home" lanes. I am looking for layout, ball and surface recommendations that will help as much as possible on wetter conditions. Thank you.

Just checked, his current successful ball is a storm flashflood (circa 2004) at 500 grit. Has anyone experimented with more surface yet (ie sandpaper at 24 - 320 grit)?

Thanks.

Sweetspot 70* Totals, 1:1.5 Ratio

Asymmetrical Layouts
Totally Strong .............. 25-5-25
Midlane ..................... 15-5-35
Benchmark ................ 30-4.75-40
Long and Strong ........... 50-4.5-40
Control ...................... 30-4.5-60

The Storm Flashflood is a Particle ball.
It has been recommended for best results to use Scotchbrite pads for surfacing.
I would recommend for him to keep a pad in his bag and freshen up the surface by hand before each set.
