Strange House League Conditions

Post by jsluk »

First night out yesterday. I bowl right handed on a 32 lane Monday evening league. I have been experiencing conditions where anything outside of the 7th board, the ball will go slide into the gutter. My typical shot is swinging the ball from the inside out. But I cannot throw this line at the start of league. What are my options to combat this condition? I thought house shots are supposed to be forgiving. Pull it inside and the ball will stay in the oil. Missed to the right and I have plenty of friction to get to the pocket. However, this is not the case?

1. I can try to throw it down and in but I just do not feel comfortable with this release.
2. I throw a 13 lb. Storm Phase II but this ball seems to be going too long and definitely will not bite in the oil on the outside. I have even dull the surface up a little with a grey Scotch-Brite Ultra Fine pad. However, the ball and my usual swing worked real well during the 3rd game with lane shine and when there was less oil.

What should I do? Probably must learn to throw a down and in shot. I only bowl once a week for league and have many many activities outside of bowling.

Should I drill a stronger ball for more mid lane roll to start with games 1 and 2? Appreciate your suggestions on this and best regards.

Thanks MegaMav for the reply. The guys that is scoring well can throw deep with a lot of hand. The others throw with a lot of ball speed and throw down and in. I have neither of those characteristics and feel awkward when I try to throw it down and in closer to the track. I probably know this is what I need to do but I am just curious if I could use something stronger and earlier than my 13# Phase II. For the first night, I scoffed up the surface with a grey Scotch Brite Ultra fine pad but it still slid in the gutter when I swing the ball until like the 3rd game. Then I could throw my normal release and target. Currently, all my balls are really old except for the Storm Phase II. Maybe I should have posted this question in the ball section.

I would appreciate any suggestions that you could throw my way. Best regards.

I'm not sure what the issue is.
It could be topographical and your ball is not making it back up the hill.
If you're not getting any help from a certain part of the lane, you'll need to find something elsewhere.
I cant offer too much help without actually seeing what is going on.
I'm of the school where, if the ball is not reacting well, I go to something smooth and shut my angles down and play direct to see the lane better.

I agree with your assessment. I will force myself to work on a down and in shot. Also, I will try to find something that is smooth. I have a very old 14# Motiv Venom Shock and I will take it out of storage and give in a shot. Thanks.
