Ball and Layout Advice for Longer Sport Pattern

Post by weberd72 »

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for a ball and layout advice for longer sport patterns. I would like to find a way to play more straight up the boards on longer sport patterns to stay more in my comfort zone. I'm pretty comfortable doing this on the shorter patterns. But the patterns don't seem to break down enough in a sport league to do that compared to a tournament. From watching others, I've seen some individuals throwing a stronger ball with a short pin layout. Not sure if that is the way to go or not. Any advice on balls and layouts to consider is much appreciated!

Dan

Thanks Eric for the suggestion! I will definitely try this. Any ability to throw a bit straighter on these patterns is in my wheelhouse. Trying to swing a bit doesn't work well for me the first couple of games where I've had some success jumping into my Conspiracy Theory. There's just not much room for error.

Any recommendations on a ball that would fit for this? My shop is preferential to the brands of Brunswick. I throw 15lb equipment. Some solid asyms that are current would be:

Hammer: Envy (2.505/.055/.021) and Envy Tour (2.469/.034/.013)
Radical: Innovator Solid (2.477/.053/.012) and Trailblazer Solid (2.484/.052/.020)
Ebonite: One Remix (2.466/.056/.027)
Brunswick: Defender (2.473/.054/.015)

I am also not opposed to exploring closeout balls as well.

Thanks!

So far I'm considering one of the following two sale/close out balls for the gap in my sport arsenal for medium to long patterns:

Storm Super Nova:(2.49/.052/.019)
Track Paragon: (2.49/.056/.015)

I'm also deciding between the layout suggested by Eric in this thread, and by MegaMav in another layout thread I have:

Eric: "20-5.5-55 Pin in the Middle finger on a strong Asymmetrical ball with a dull surface"

MegaMav: "Radical Informer: 40 x 4 3/4 x 40 Total sums seem to be on, but I dont think you need to go that low of a ratio, especially on the bigger asym cores made today, after balance holes were elimintated."

My summer sport league started last night with short oil, so I have a few weeks before we bowl on the long pattern to where I need to decide something soon. The equipment that I have that probably would work at this point is a symmetrical Forrest Green Quantum and an older asym RotoGrip Mutant Cell. I would like to retire the Mutant Cell as it is one of the older balls I have and its full of plug.

Any opinions on this are very much appreciated! Thanks!

Any thoughts on a DV8 Intimidator Solid (2.481/.051/.016)? This is the only asym ball my driller has on close out sale.

Thoughts would be much appreciated!
