Help with my sons hand pain
Does anyone have sharp pain in this area (marked) of the hand in between the 4th and 5th metacarpal? My son is a bowler and has not bowled in about 4 months. We are currently seeing hand and wrist doctors. The original diagnosis was Kienbock’s, but further examination showed it was not. He has had 3 MRI’s with one arthrogram and everything is good. He's been going to P.T for the past 4 weeks and only can throw about 20 shots before it starts hurting.

I'm not a doctor, but it may be a TFCC tear.

All the MRI’s and test have ruled out tfcc. At a loss right now.

Disclaimer, Not a Doctor
So my observations may mean nothing or I might be on to something.
How old is your son?
When did he start bowling?
What weight balls has he used over the course of his bowling career.
I would like to see a picture of his left hand as well.
imho
I looks like the ring and middle finger are angled towards the pinky side of the hand.
This indicates to me that he is pulling his fingers sideways through his delivery and his hand is being affected by the forces.

Re: Help with my sons hand pain
From the pic, it looks like his thumbnail is bruised. If so, is that from bowling???

Do you have video of him bowling?
Preferably with the center of focus on his release.

Re: Help with my sons hand pain
I also have pain there. along with carpal and some arthritis on the back of my hand. It comes and goes in that area. I had to switch to 14lbs to be able to continue bowling. So you might want to look into a 14lb and see how he feels. It dont sound like much, but that extra pound makes a big difference

Re: Help with my sons hand pain
Wrist pain was what let me know that 16# was too heavy.
Several other injuries later, I roll 13# to be pain free from the game.
