Re: Grippy white tape recommendations

Also, are you using any tape on your thumb? Interesting, there it is. Don't know why I hadn't seen it before, but I hadn't. Thanks, something to look at now. No, nothing on my thumb. I tried one of those back of the thumb tapes once or twice and it came off in 3 or 4 frames. Not a heavy sweater and...

Re: Skid flip doesnt exist anymore

A week and a half into the Virtual Energy Blackout, drilled pin up and I can say it's definitely a skid/snap ball. Not quite as extreme as the Detour when it was reacting, but definitely a skid/snap ball. Overall it actually hooks more than I wanted it too, but I like the pattern.

Grippy white tape recommendations

Typically I have tape front and back in the ball, white in front and black in back. For many years I used Curity Green label white tape, which worked great, except that eventually the adhesive turned to goo and it started sliding out. Irrelavent as it's no longer available, but the texture and gripp...

Curiously, Storm Virtual Energy Blackout seemed to be the answer.

Replacement/??? Columia Detour

I'm an old guy who used to be a pretty damn good bowler, but a smarter player than the way I threw the ball. Bowled one 3 game a league for years and of late have gotten back into it some. A friend game me an old Columbia Detour a few years ago, about 2 years ago I finally had it redrilled and wow. ...

Re: Advice on Approach Requested - Slow Ball Speed

Hard to tell from the video, but you don't look old or small, suggesting it's technique, not strength. Your backswing is short and low and contributes to a low ball speed, but on a common, soft, league condition you should be able to average over 200 with 13 ball speed, if you're throwing the ball w...

Re: Oil patterns during league play

I agree with Pinbusters comments, I'm not aware of any rule that says all lanes have to be the same. Many times I've bowled on pairs where one lane was dramatically different than the other. Regarding Glenn's comments, the house and personnel may or may not even had the knowledge or equipment to do ...

Re: Robert Smith Podcast "are heavy pins the answer" any video?

Responding to the zombie thread. At least twice pins have already been increased in weight. Until the early 80s, 3-2 was the minimum. Then it was increased to 3-4. Curiously ABC at the time said scoring shouldn't really be affected, excepted by perhaps some women and children. Then why exactly was t...

Heels

Once upon a time it was simple, get new shoes, wear them round the house for an hour or two, bowl a game of practice and they're good for the next 5 years. But ~10 years ago I got new shoes and the heels were like a tailhook on a fighter. Heel down and I stop, right now. Eventually I made them work ...

Doesn't seem to be a thing here, but is on most forums so I'll do it anyway. Name is Mike, used to be a good bowler, a competitive bowler, prime in the 80's and 90's, never stopped, except for a couple of years here and there due to life/work/circumstances. Worked in bowls, head mechanic for a group...
