High school bowling

Post by Bam7 »

Hello, New High school bowler here. How does the high school bowling format work for schools? Is it team events, singles, doubles? Would it be on a sport pattern or a house pattern? Thank you!

Hi, high school bowling is a team and singles event rolled into one. The total scores from each individual counts towards the team score. Within the same game, a bowler will be competing against a bowler from the other team. In other words, bowler #1 on your team is bowling against bowler #1 on the other team. Points are given for games won on that individual basis.

In Michigan, the oil pattern that has been decided upon is call the Phantom. It is a moderately difficult pattern, but that really depends on the house. The Phantom plays a little longer than the old Allen Pattern.

Due to the degree of difficulty the Phantom oil pattern presents, some centers will just put out a house shot or modified house shot.

The pattern you play on for matches will vary by state/county, as will the game play. In Ohio its 2 individual games of 5 players with 4 baker games. total pins wins

Where my Son went to school, they bowled on fresh to burnt up garbage from the night before. While other areas around us play on fresh and or mild sports patterns.

The state tournament in Ohio is on a pretty mild sports pattern, that said, it can make a huge difference to the kids that have no experience on a true sport shot.
