Post by kevin »

During the Ball Motion Study conducted by the USBC, it was found that static weights make VERY little difference to overall ball motion. You will notice all these forums, Mo has repeatedly stated that static weights account for around 1% of total ball reaction, with surface, layout and balance hole location making up the bulk of the difference.

So, with that in mind, you can expect to see VERY little difference in reaction between a ball with .75oz positive side weight and .75oz negative side weight. The same goes for finger, thumb and top weight.

That's about as good as I can explain it, really.

Read about the Ball Motion Study in the Equip. and Specs. Dept section of bowl.com. All the statics weight add up to 1% of ball reaction and finger/thumb is the least important of the statics (17th out of 18 variables in the ball motion study), therefore, it's less than .33% of ball motion. That's small!
