I was bowling today using a one-step drill at first, then i did a two step drill for the 1st game. After which i bowled a game (scores were on because i was paying by the game). I bowled a 248 game and i had slowed my first two steps of my approach way down. I moved up on the approach so as not to speed up my last 3 steps too much.
as i was finishing that game a friend walked in and said he noticed i was throwing it faster than i usually do. Well, i had to take out the stop watch and check it out. Sure enough i was at 2.4 seconds release to headpin. 17.4 mph i was ranging in from 16.5 to 17.4 mph consistently.
I did not expect this but i'm pleasantly surprised. I was using less effort and my speed was up. I dont know if the 1 step and 2 step drills had anything to do with it either.
anyone else experience this type of thing?

I experienced this once my foot cadence cleaned up. Without a video it is tough to be accurate, but I bet that you are experiencing a better energy transfer. This will generate more ball speed and usually a slightly higher rev rate as well.

Re: Ball Speed Increase in Practice Today
actually, the biggest things i got from Jim Merrell were 1) starting my ball simultaneously with my right foot and 2) i dont recall if he told me this but putting my left foot forward (5-step approach) and starting my approach with my left foot first. for awhile it was not producing the strikes and scores i was used to bowling and it felt like a slump where i couldnt seem to throw more than 3 in a row.
But I said i needed to give it a chance. on slick approaches (last Sat. nite a good example) my ball speed was 15.5 because approaches were too slippery. But looks like my grip technique is going to be my next game changer because it releases so automatically now i dont have to focus on clearing my thumb like i did before.
