Ball Weight Question

Post by dgordon040894 »

Recently I have been having problems where i have too much ball speed, currently i am throwing 14# equipment. One of the drillers that i was going to that owns all of the shops in the area thought that i was too far behind the ball and that was causing ripping on my thumb, so he dropped my ring finger slightly (about 1/8th of an inch) by doing this it created more tilt, but now even with the ring finger span lengthened again im almost spinning the ball.

Im working on staying more behind the ball now but i still have a lot of speed. My main question is, being 6 foot tall and having a small frame only weighing about 120lbs would going up to 15lbs create a lot of problems. Im trying to get as many opinions on this as possible so i can make a good decision.

Thanks

It shouldn't create any issues as long as you aren't muscling the ball through the swing. You may find that initially you're trying to pull the ball down from the top, but if you wait on it you should be fine. The only other thing you might notice, is you'll wear out a little bit faster. That will go away in time. Just a conditioning thing.

Ok im not sure if its something im going to do or not, because i think i need to honestly just redo my entire game, i wish i could just start from scratch with equipment and everything but i dont have the money so im going to have to go with the equipment i have, get it properly fit if it isnt. And ill get in some time with a coach, more than likely tom blasco seeing that hes in my area.

I suggest you go to the Wiki and do an accurate Wiki fit yourself. Then, go to the lanes and get ALL your delivery specs. Now, post a video of yourself bowling (back and side view) on this forum. I'll respond and you can go from there.

I found what i was looking for, and heres what i figured out

I tried the wiki fit and if im correct the measurements i got should be like this.

MF span: 4 1/8"
RF span: 4"
MF Pitch: 1/8 forward, 1/4 left
RF pitch: 1/8 forward, 1/2 right
Thumb pitch: 1/16 forward, 0 left-right

I already accommodated for flex and skin, right now im at 1/4 forward in my thumb and it feels like it slips off no mattter how much tape i have in the thumb, i will talk to my driller today about my other pitches because i got the same span as my current equipment, i will also bring a camera and have the driller mark my pap for me.

Got to the lanes and realized i didnt have my camera with me, i threw one of my drillers balls that had the same thumb pitch so i was able to use my switch grip, and he had similar span and finger sizes so i threw his 15 for about 2 hours without problems other than trying to consistently put the same amount of revs without forcing or hitting up, and i had some problems with my thumb slipping in the hole, which i have with 14s too. Other thing he said is that i should have been throwing 15 for a while now and he has no clue why the past driller told me no when i asked him about 15s, I did notice because of the lower speed i left more 9 pins and 7-9s. But i was throwing his wild ride on completely scorched lanes so i had to be firm with the speed because my accuracy as i move deeper isnt great because i havent had to move that deep in a long time.
I think if i was able to get a few new balls in 15 i would, only one i wouldnt replace is my plastic in 14 because thats brand new. Anyone have any idea where i can sell some 14s and get some 15s? i would like to move up to 15 but i dont know anywhere where i can get even used balls for an inexpensive price, with me not working and having no income i would have to sell my current arsenal and purchase all new/used balls. any suggestions on balls and where i can get them and sell my current ones?

Check e-Bay, the only problem is shipping cost. If you could find someone at your bowling center to buy the 14 lbers, maybe you could start over with new 15's. -- JohnP

I looked at ebay and shipping is outrageous plus if i want a good quality ball i have to pay at least 60 then shipping then 42 for drilling at home. and mostly everyone at my house that i know that throws 14 is going up to 15 or already has enough balls
