Looking for a new ball, any comments?

Post by midxbowler »

Have any of you guys/gals tried the new Storm Prodigy bowling ball?
For what type of lane condition is this bowling ball best used for?
I tend to think, since the coverstock is Pearl Particle(Mica Chips), it will
be clean through the dry/medium heads and get the length, plus it will
have a bit of traction due to the particle load for oil carry down. It turns
out, that this is the only Pearl Particle bowling ball on the market today.

Hammer Black Onyx Vibe Bowling Ball ,,, any comments?

Post by midxbowler »

As some or most of you know, the Vibe series of bowling balls from Hammer
have been very successful over the years, and it is the favorite bowling ball
used by PBA retired bowler Doug Kent. What are some of your comments for the
Black Onyx Vibe bowling ball and for what lane condition is it best suited for?

There are other particle pearls you might want to look at:

Legends Black Pearl
Lane Masters Extreme Damage
Lane #1 Curve

Not sure about the "Micron Pearl" on the Lane Masters Buzz Attack. You might have to ask them.

While all pearls technically are particle, I spoke with Ernest Goedecke, and there is no addtional additive other than mica to the coverstock of the Prodigy.

This ball should be considered reactive pearl.

Ive thrown this ball and its fantastic. I bowl with brunswick so im not just talking up another storm ball. But what i saw from the ball was it went pretty long but had a very nice and hard arc to the pocket. The one i threw was drill to go long. I through it on some broken down lanes and still was clean threw the front and handled carry down very well. Im guessing the mica helped with the carry down. Anyways im very impressed with the Prodigy.

I have one in 14 lbs. It's a fairly recent purchase with roughly 9-12 games on it. I drilled it 2.5" pin to pap and 1.25" pin to val [30 degree angle to val]. I punched a weight hole at roughly P2.75. The ball had a low top weight of 2oz, so the hole at this point is roughly 5/8" x 2.5". Finish is OOB. The weight and the drill is basically an experiment. I wanted a very controllable ball in a lighter weight to help me work on staying behind the ball and working out some kinks in my release.

My impressions thus far: I am speed dominant and I don't find this ball to be as strong as others have claimed. If I wear a wrist brace, I get enough revs to be more evenly matched and get a very nice reaction out of it. Without the brace, i get a ball with a slight hook more suitable for playing a straighter line. I think the surface needs tweaking to work out for me at this weight. In either case, it is more archy than snappy...just as hammer claims.

It's a pretty good ball and so far I'm liking it pretty well. BTW, it's not really black - it's a very deep purple with silver sparkles. I would think that if you are matched or slightly rev dominant, you'll probably like it very much. Games thus far have been on fresh, wet / dry and broken down light to med oil.

Hope this helps...

The black onyx is a great ball. I found that if you take off the shine, the ball will work great in almost any condition from medium oil to medium dry, depending on the layout.

Brunswick Wicked Siege Bowling Ball ,,, any comments?

Post by midxbowler »

Have any of you guys/gals tried the new Brunswick Wicked Siege bowling ball?
I hear that this particular bowling ball has some length because
of its 2.54 RG and it also has a bit of strong backend motion.
http://www.bowlwithbrunswick.com/balls/ ... ked-siege/
It appears, that this bowling ball is quite versatile for medium to oily conditions.

Ballspeed: 18.5mph
Axis Tilt: 20*
Axis of Rotation: 45* to 50*
RevRate: 250rpm
PAP: 5"(Right) & 3/4"(Up)

What is a really good Dual Angle Layout for this bowling ball?

Black onyx vibe has an extreme backend for me im left handed who throws the ball 18mph on my first shot and i have a very high rev rate. I think this ball would be good for lanes with medium oil with about 40-45 of oil down the lane. Ball hits great and has great drive through the pins but i left many eight pins and seven pins.
The prodigy seem to be one of the best balls i've ever used on a house shot. When it came to more of a sport shot it gave me a good continues roll throughout the lane. Ball hits pretty hard. only down fall is if the volume of oil is increased it just couldn't get the job done.
