I live 2 hours away from the Proshop that I use to drill my equipment, so that’s why I haven’t actually remeasured my PAP yet, but I’ve also only been bowling 5 days with the pitch change in my ring finger.

Verify your release specs.
If you are in the 10* Tilt range I like the Control Layout 80-2.5-55 for you on the Trailblazer.

I’m going to the Proshop tomorrow Eric to pick up a ball that i had the Proshop drill out a oval sleeve to put in a slug with an oval milled, and when I go to pick the ball up, we are going to re measure my PAP and tilt, so once I have the new info I’ll post it so we can get my new sweet spot numbers etc

Ok my new PAP is 4 5/8 over and 1/4 up and my tilt is 15 degrees. I’m pretty satisfied with the pitch change and I’m not going to mess with anything for a few years unless I get hurt or something.

Add your Tilt and Rotation numbers in your profile so we have easy reference when discussing layouts.

If you are dealing with skimpy oil patterns (low volume), like many of us today. Layouts that retain tilt longer will be desirable.

Ok my profile is updated with my current stats. So will my layouts move more towards the first set that you gave me Eric? Or will you refigure them please and I promise I won’t need new ones for a few years, but your layouts do so well for me. The THS that I’m bowling on is 23 units of Brunswick Control oil, 40 feet in length. I bowl on Brunswick synthetics. I’m also going to be bowling in a PBA sport league starting in November so if you could add my sport pattern layouts also that would be cool!

Yes, and I would drill the thumb hole 4-1/2" deep as well. Trying to get as much flare as possible out of their weak cores.

Just drilled up an !Q Tour Nano Pearl with xx-4.5-30, and man I’m going to love this ball a lot, so much so I’m thinking about buying a second one or at least the original !Q Tour! Thanks again for the recommended layouts Eric, every time I’ve used them, I’ve loved them and it’s giving me the type of reaction I want from the layout.

Ok so this is the arsenal that I’m thinking about putting together. It’s going to be 8 balls total with a urethane and short pin asym and symmetrical, would like opinions on layouts for the other balls I’m looking at to complete the arsenal to compliment the two I have so far, here are the balls I’m looking to add and I am also putting the two balls I have bought with their layouts also in the list.

Storm Proton Physix
Radical Trailblazer
Roto Grip Nuclear Cell: 80-2.25-45
Storm Iq Tour Nano Pearl: xx-4.5-30
900 Global Zen
Roto Grip Hustle PBR
Hammer Purple Urethane

I’m looking for a suggestion on a symmetrical to put a short pin layout on also, I’m open to any and all ball companies but I like the ball motion from storm and radical the most, but I have thrown at least one ball from every company out there but DV8 and Motiv. I was thinking maybe a Phaze 3 would be a good choice for a short pin but I dunno…

Not a fan of the short pin layouts on Symmetrical equipment. They loose tilt to quickly and don't carry well in my experience with them.
I found they need to be played very straight, with speed and low rotation for best results.

I am limited for time right now. I will get back to to your layouts in the near future.

Ok so here are my ideas that I had in my head for my arsenal. The way I like to set up my arsenal is in this manner. Heavy oil control ball which will be the Storm Proton Physix. Heavy oil angular ball which will be the Radical Trailblazer. Medium oil control which is the Storm !Q Nano Pearl that I just drilled up, medium oil angular which will be the 900 Global Zen. Light oil control which will be the Roto Grip Hustle PBR, and finally the Purple Hammer urethane, which is for short patterns and when the breakpoint is really tight. My Nuclear Cell is an asymmetric short pin, it’s purpose is to give me a look similar to urethane on the medium to longer patterns, or so I can play farther right longer on a block before I make a ball
change to move way inside and swing it. I also will be adding 1 more ball either to do another short pin layout on or something to fill a gap somewhere, I haven’t decided yet. Here are the layouts I have in mind for the balls that I want to add.

Storm Proton Physix: 60 x 4.5 x 30 this is a strong ball and I want a strong layout on it so I can blend out heavy oiled patterns on the fresh and not have the over/under.

Radical Trailblazer: 90 x 5 x 40 this is also a strong asym that is pretty skip flippy from what I’ve seen. I’m wanting to use this ball when my proton is too early, or when I need to move inside and swing it when my proton is starting to leave ten pins. So I was thinking the long and strong but with a weaker 5 in pin so I can play deeper inside and get through the heads easier.

900 Global Zen: xx x 4.5 x 30 this is same layout has my !Q Tour Nano Pearl. These two balls are very different as far as cover strength and core dynamics, so my benchmark layout on both balls will give me vastly different looks, and I’ll still be able to move deep inside and swing this ball as intended with this layout on the medium volumed patterns.

Roto Grip Hustle PBR: xx x 5.5 x 60 This ball is for the really light volumes or for when the lanes get absolutely burned up, I want to be able to move inside when the lanes are fried but still have a reaction that’s not totally a hockey stick motion, the 5.5 pin distance should be weak enough to still get the ball to float in the heads, and the 60 VAL ANGLE should give me a smoother reaction down lane still.

Purple Hammer: xx x 3.5 x 25 Since this is a urethane ball I’m drilling it very strong and will request my pro shop guy to drill the thumb 4 1/2 inches deep. This ball is going to be for the short patterns on the fresh to give me a nice and predictable motion on the backend and to allow me to play straight early in a block, so hopefully I can move in with a stronger ball after a game or two and use the carry down that I will create with urethane to create hold when I move in and swing it.

These are the ideas that I’m thinking about and my thought process as to what I’m looking for in each ball. Im still open to any suggestions on another ball, I carry 9 to league and tournaments generally, but I do throw plastic at spares. So I’ve got room for one more ball. I still want another short pin layout in a symmetrical
or even another asymmetrical ball that would give me a slightly different look than the Nuclear Cell.

I'd expect it to be fairly strong and continuous.
Should be a good look on softer conditions.
It will give you what you want.

FYI: 5" Pin to PAP on an asymmetric is not weak.

I like your ideas with the exception of the Trailblazer.
Like Mega said a 5" pin to PAP is not weak. It promotes forward roll. It could be observed as weak because it will not cover as many boards.
When we talk about Strong around here, Strong means early
When getting deep inside and swinging the lane you need something more continuous like the Recommended 75 x 3.75 x 35.
The Stronger Asymmetry of the Trailblazer's core will create more natural length and make it have quicker transitions from skid to hook to roll.
Over compensating with the layout will amplify this even more. I trust MegaMav's experience with the Radical line-up.

Ok thanks for the advice, I do know that on asyms a 5 in pin to PAP is a stronger layout than a 5in pin to PAP on a symmetrical ball. I guess what I meant on weaker, meaning I could play a little straighter, so my bad on bad terminology. But ill keep it in mind for the future that on asyms 5in to PAP is still a strong pin position. My next purchase will be the radical trailblazer in November since the launch date got pushed back, I can’t wait to try the suggested layout from MegaMav.
4 5/8” —> x 1/4” ^ PAP
10* rotation
7* tilt
300 rpm’s
17 mph off my hand
