Low speed, low tilt, high axis rotation

Post by Mongo »

I've got a teammate who consistently struggles the second the heads start to go away. I know he needs length with recovery, but he keeps buying stronger stuff. Currently, he's got 3-4 NIB and is asking me how to lay one out to give him some extra pop. I want to tell him take some lessons and pick up some ball speed, but I'm nice, so I'm looking at what he's got

His specs
Ball speed - 14.5-15.5
RPM - 250-275
Rotation - 80
Tilt - 7

His ball choices

C300 Impulse
Ebonite Source
Ebonite Real One

My initial suggestion is the Impulse at 80 x 4 x 20. Shiny hybrid should clear the fronts and the 4:1 ratio should be plenty angular enough.

I'm more than open to other suggestions.

I think the Impulse is symmetrical, so you will take what you get for ratios (factor in the thumb-hole location). For length, you add the sums of the angles, so the larger you can make them, the more length you will achieve. Even on an asymmetrical ball, 20* with a large drilling angle will be very uncontrollable (condition specific) for his specs. Has he ever tried Mo's low flare layouts on asymmetrical balls?

I'm definitely with elgavachon with the low flare set up on an Asym.

I always start with the Benchmark and work from there.
100* totals 2.25:1 Ratio
Benchmark .................... 70-3.5-30
Long and Strong ............ 90-3.5-30
Control ......................... 75-3-45
low flare ....................... 90-2-30

Ebonite Source .............. 90-3.5-30
Ebonite Real One ........... 90-2-30
C300 Impulse ............... xx-5-30 drill the thumb hole deep

Right Handed
PAP 4.75" up 1/2"
45* rotation
12* tilt
330 rev rate
