Hi,
I am new to the board and am looking for a starter/benchmark layout for my specs in my signature. I bowl on typical house shots but want to understand layouts better and could use some help. I bowl on synthetic lanes. Thanks Steve

PAP 5 1/4 over flat
Tilt 13 Degrees
Axis Tilt 61 Degrees
Rev Rate 330
Speed 14 MPH at the pins
Sweetspot 100* Total, 2:1 Ratio
Asymmetrical Benchmark 65-4-35
The Asymmetrical Benchmark is a Strong layout for THS. Unless you feel like you are bowling on a flood and need layout help to get the ball to hook and roll.
What ball are you thinking about getting?
For Asymmetrical balls I suggest either the Long and Strong, Control or low flare layout for the typical house shot.
Long and Strong ........... 85-4-35
Control ........................ 65-4-55
low flare ...................... 85-2.25-35
Symmetrical layouts
Benchmark ................. xx-4.25-30
Control ...................... xx-4.5-50 pin in ring finger

Re: Benchmark Layout
Thank you for the reply. I don't know what I want to get drilled next. I am a Roto Grip guy as it gets to confusing with all the different stuff out there. I have mostly pearls and hybrids so was looking at getting a solid this time. So either winner solid, Idol solid or Halo solid. This is what I take typically on league.
No Rules Pearl 65 x 4.75 x 35
Winner Pearl 60 x 5 x 40
Hywire 55 x 5 x 35
All out show off 60 x 4.75 x 40
Haywire which I don't have numbers on but similar to the above balls.
So I need a stronger solid/pearl/hybrid. I do have a Hypercell skid drilled 45 x 4 x 40 which just has never worked for me.
It looks like I am on the right track layout wise and thank you. Steve

Eric I have a question . Why on the symmetrical layouts are there xx on the first drilling angle? Also when you say 2:1 ratio that means the first drilling angle should be twice the second drilling angle. Thanks Steve

The Ratio is Drilling Angle : VAL AngleSRB442 wrote:Eric I have a question . Why on the symmetrical layouts are there xx on the first drilling angle? Also when you say 2:1 ratio that means the first drilling angle should be twice the second drilling angle. Thanks Steve
And yes with a 2:1 Ratio the Drilling angle is twice that of the VAL Angle.
When I figured your Benchmark I rounded the numbers to the nearest 5* otherwise your Benchmark would be 66.667 - 4 - 33.333
As far as the xx in the Symmetrical layouts, the Drilling angle is not adjustable it is what it is and that will basically be the thumbhole location. Cg location does not affect the drilling angle. With the new rules you can basically put it anywhere you want. I would suggest putting the Cg towards the grip center.
