I think I need help with this one.....

So I have a customer that came today. The guy he purchased it from set it up “max’d out”.

The customers specs:

PAP: 5 7/8R, 1 1/8U
Tilt: 13.5” so what 1*
AR: 90*
Speed: 3.09(13)
Rev Rate: 7-8(165-170ish)

First off this guys fit is atrocious. It’s at least 3/8 to 1/2” long. He has NO flexibility in his ring finger. I don’t know how he isn’t in pain after every league night. I bet this guy hasn’t had his fit checked in 20 years minimum.

Using the low tilt/high rotation chart I see this as a 1:1 ratio.

But what pin placement?
Asymmetricals: 2-3?
Symmetrical: 4-5?

He is a borderline full roller...actually I suppose he is. I could drill the ball he gave me with a full roller layout. Or I could drill it with a standard layout in hopes my fit changes alter his release.

Thoughts?

Try the fit changes on an old plugged ball, chances are that although it will be a good change for him he could not like it at the beginning as it will feel strange. Have him stick with the fit and focus on tweaking it till you get it as good as possible then take his specs again and drill the new ball with the new specs as they will most likely change.

This is my normal course of action. He gave both his balls, one is his favorite and other is from the “garage” driller. We are plugging that one to experiment with.

I do my work out of my garage. Its more of a hobby than anything and much easier walking 10 steps to do the stuff than driving 15min each way to the lanes. Also save 100$ a month on the rent they would charge.

Also I've seen IBPSA certified pro shops drill intersecting finger holes before, so like you said hacks are everywhere!!

My apologies, you are both right. I shouldn't have generalized. I'll edit my comment.

I played drums in a garage band in my teens and 20s... we really rocked if that’s relevant. Carry on gentlemen.

I had an old Freakin Frantic laying around so I drilled up this gentleman’s new fit.

The first few shots were a bit rough as he was still squeezing the ball like crazy. I worked with him for almost 45 mins on relaxing his grip, timing and other issues. We managed to get the track off the thumb. It moved from inside the fingers and thumb to just outside the thumb. We made progress....

I asked him to practice for another week before I drill up the ball he brought me to plug. I think we are on the right track.

May all beings everywhere be happy and free,
and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life
contribute in some way to that happiness
and to that freedom for all.
