Tour edition? What is it?

Post by markkuhn »

Does anyone know what is unique about a bowling ball with a Tour or Tour Edition in its name?

The IQ Tour was developed at the request of the pros when the original IQ was waaay to strong for them. The IQ Tour features a very small differential to control the amount of flare for high rev players.

Devoid of specific knowledge, it's been my impression Tour editions are more on the mellow side than the regular releases. That's based on the premise that elite bowler's put more on a ball than the average best. Additionally the conditions are more demanding.
Again, just an assumption.
I remember bowling a pro am with Gene (?) Mchune, Nick named the missile man.
On tour, he rolled it very straight, on the pro am shot, he had to play deep inside as even with his weaker (by comparison) release, he was hooking coast to coast on our shot.
Just for fun and expediency, I trolled YouTube for comparisons.

Originally it was a ball that looked on TV like the ball some company wanted to sell, but really was completely different so it would actually work for the pro throwing it. Here's a rant about that (among other things) from 1998. https://web.archive.org/web/19980507144 ... efault.htm

It is a way to Market strong cover weak cored balls.
Be like the Pros they really don't need the core to help carry the 10 pin.

Submitted in humor ...
I found that my best carry was with a kettle ball. Love those handles ...
