No hook Layout for a plastic 12lb ball with pancake block

Post by jdrsuper »

My specs are in my signature. I have a plastic ball with 1/2 oz negative side weight and drilled specifically for me to make the pesky 7 pin, my nemesis. It is sometime successful on long oiled sport shots but on house shots I'm about 50% successful. I was wondering with the new rules, what kind of layout and static weights would make the ball go as straight as possible in oil and friction. I am a 78 year old bowler who has not mastered the new releases and has a tendency to turn and come off the side of the ball. Hooking a ball has never been a problem and with my slow speed Thirteen off hand and 9+ at the monitor everything hooks. Would 3oz of negative side weight help? Any advice and layout suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Due to a type 3 shoulder separation in 2000 it is difficult to totally stay behind the ball a throw it straight. Thanks.

CG 6" from PAP on the midline.
Shine the ball like a marble each week.
Use a polish with a slip agent.

Ditto the recommendation to keep the ball shined like a marble.
Shiny surfaced balls loose their shine to the lane on every shot.
My plastic ball needs to have the surface touched up as often as my dull balls.

megamav eric,

Thanks to both of you for your help. Before I drill a new plastic ball I'll start polishing it like a shiny marble before my Wednesday senior league and before ABT tournaments. If that does the trick then one less ball to plug or buy. Am I correct in assuming that the drilling you suggested, Megamav, will make the plastic ball reduce what ever little flare it has.

The standard spare ball (least hooking) layout is to drill the ball with 1/2 oz. negative side on the label. If you want to be anal (like me), drill the ball with the pin 6 3/4" from the PAP on the midline and put the balance hole on the negative axis point to make the side weight legal, if necessary. That's actually the way to make it go the straightest.

From: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=448&p=4214&hilit=M ... ight#p4214" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

When Mo made this recommendation the old static weight rules limited negative or positive side weight to 1.0 oz, and he said to maximize the negative side weight. With the new regs I think he would recommend going as high as possible while staying less than 3.0 oz negative. -- JohnP
