No double burn for the 2018 U.S. Open

They are saying that there will still be 3 8 game qualifying squads. This does not make sense, because that means some bowlers will get fresh 2 times or burn 2 times while others do not. I would think they would go to 4 8 game qualifying squads to even things out. or do I understand this wrong?

If they're split into 3 squads, as normal, everyone will bowl on fresh twice and burn once.

To do this, wouldn't they have to re-oil before the 3rd squad?

Yes, I'm making an assumption that they'll keep 3 squads. I don't have any inside information about that.

But as you said, there's no fair way to do two squads, and the length of the tournament suggests (to me) 3 days for qualifying.

According to the article posted in the OP, the men are going to remove the double burn in their US Open.
