I want a urethane ball. I know, I know! But I still do.
I want to more porous cover for oily lane conditions.
Roto Grip’s “Hot Cell” Or Hammer’s Black Widow Urethane.”
The price of either ball is not an issue.
I tend to be fairly consistent with my approach, and I tend to bowl a rather straight Ball.
Obviously some of you will simply say, “don’t buy a urethane ball,” and still others of you will say that you prefer a Hammer ball or a Roto Grip ball. Everyone has their favorites.
Considering all that, is there anyway to really make a commonsense reasonable decision between the two that I’ve spoken about?
I’m leaning more towards the “Hot Cell” Ball, but only because of the aesthetics of the solid Red shell. Not a good enough reason to buy that ball, by itself.
Help!!!!!

if you want a more porous surface for oily lanes, Then you don't want a Urethane.I want to more porous cover for oily lane conditions.
Any urethane you pick is going to be very condition specific.Roto Grip’s “Hot Cell” Or Hammer’s Black Widow Urethane.”
Both are good balls, Both have popular cores, The undrilled numbers are not that different both should start up pretty early compared to others.
Toss a coin or go with the color you like.

First off, I commend your decision to get a urethane ball.soupy1957 wrote:I want a urethane ball. I know, I know! But I still do.

I love urethane.
Also my game doesn't work well with reactive because I quickly get into over/under with reactive balls.
Urethane smooths all this out for me.
Hot Cell or Black Widow?
I have the Black Widow and it is a hook monster!
With a high flare layout (be sure not to use a balance hole since you will have to plug it later in 2020) the Widow will be sweeping and rolly.
No jumps or jerks, just pure arc and roll.
But it is very strong and needs oil in the front of the lane or it will hook too early and lose power.
The Hotcell has a bigger core than the Widow and may provide a little more continuation through the pins.
Both balls are the strongest urethane balls made today and both handle oil very well and don't lose much traction even after they get drenched.
Here is a video of me using the Widow.
I am a low rev (150 rpm or less)
Low ball speed (10-11 mph at the pins)
Full Roller
Yet, even with a very weak release like I have, the Widow still rolls very hard on a heavy house shot:

Re: I can’t choose
I'm afraid you're confusing urethane with reactive resin. Both are a type of urethane, but reactive resin has a chemical modifier added that makes it more porous. Generally, reactive resin balls hook more than urethane balls. And I agree with TonyPR about the Cyclone. -- JohnPsoupy1957 wrote:I want a urethane ball. I know, I know! But I still do.

Edit: If you're comparing to plastic balls, a urethane ball hooks more than plastic.
