Left Hip Pain

Post by soupy1957 »

I took the new ball out to the Alley this morning and played three games by myself. I won’t mention the lousy score while I got used to throwing the new ball, but I can tell you that my left hip was hurting and I couldn’t put my weight on it without pain, as I slid up to the foul line.

Could be Arthritis, could be lack of stretching.........

It forced me to drop my left balancing arm down to my left leg to support myself, which is not what I want to be doing!!

When I first had the ball sized to my hand and I threw a few frames with it, I did not have my pinky taped to my ring finger on my throwing hand. This time, I DID tape my fingers up, and I’m wondering if maybe part of the problem is that. At least as it relates to the lack of hook that I had today?

Doesn’t solve the hip issue though. My step-son, who was a CrossFit Instructor said “stretching” and Tumeric might be useful things to employ. I’m thinking Ibuprophen (lol).

Frustrating!!

I have been having similar pains as yours for many years. I have seen various doctors. Start with your primary physician who may recommend other medical specialists: orthopedics, physical therapy, pain specialists, etc. Get a diagnosis first before you go further.

I have had MRIs that show that I have trochanteric bursitis. It's been a long road to recovery, but I am finding the most relief from a pain specialist. He provides trigger point injections and Rx for opioids which I have found to be a better choice for me than OTC meds. Since your son is a specialist, ask him for some stretching exercises that might help your hips.

I also use a combination of neoprene thigh braces (Ace or Mueller) that keep my muscles warm while bowling. Sometimes I use pain patches, as well (Salopas, etc.). Don't ignore what your body is telling you. Start a plan for recovery ASAP. It will only get worse if you do nothing.

Having suffered from trochanteric bursitis myself, it's an unbelievable experience to now be pain-free.
The injection didn't seem to provide much relief for me nor medication.

Luckily, I have some Hot & Cold reusable gel packs from another injury (old age) on hand. I froze the gel pack and applied it directly over the trochanteric bony area for a half an hour 3-4 times a day. Went to bed every night with it over the area. The packs typically, only last about a half-hour before they are no longer effective.

I have been pain-free for about seven months, I don't remember but it took around 4-6 weeks for the pain to dissipate.

But, for anyone who has this type of pain, when it's gone you feel as though you're ready to run a marathon.

I found this product which I came close to purchasing but opted for the hot/cold gel packs instead.

As mentioned healing, is a slow process.

Played five games on Sunday afternoon with absolutely no hip pain whatsoever! Don’t know why not, but I’m grateful!

I've been having the same issue and it started with my left knee and went into my hip. chiro found it to be a tight quad causing tendonitis in both areas. I bought a roller and roller the quad and the side of the quad. first time I found very painful spots that are knots in the muscle. Now I roller it out without pain but I can feel the hip area getting tight. Then I roller it and gone.

Try one it may really help it beats taking advil all day.

Get a video from the side. Remember, a lot of force is hitting your left hip and knee as you slide or plant. Look for any imbalances or awkwardness in your approach there. If you watch guys like Barnes, it's graceful and easy (not easy as in simple, but easy as in not forced) - if you force it, you're putting extra stresses. . .

I need a new left knee. It's bone on bone and I'm using KT Tape, a compression sleeve and a Don-Joy Unloader brace with cortisone shots every 4 months, as per instructions from my Orthopedic surgeon.

For a few years (obviously this has been ongoing) my knee would hurt badly throughout bowling and then at least a day after. I just fought through it.

A short while ago, a friend asked my why I was not sliding well and forcing myself to try to balance on a planted foot. I had thought I was sliding gracefully (well, graceful like a rhino. . . LOL) so I took a look and. . . I wasn't. I was placing extra stress where I could least afford it.

I started placing extra focus on grace and balance (well, again, rhino. . .) and keeping MOST of the stress off my knee. I'm keeping my left shoe clean and brushed (esp the heel - keeping it consistent) and making part of my pre-shot mantra to allow a little lateness and sliiiiiide. Aside from when I do something stupid (sliding on the edge of my foot or dropping my heel) I've been pain-free for several months. And I broke out of my slump and have been increasing my scores (hit 693 Monday night), which is a further bonus! :)
