Tenacity Low rev high track

Post by Spartacus »

Long time listener, first time caller!
I find the posts fascinating, but I am a little dizzy 800-1100 readings later...

Brunswick Tenacity - layout advice?
270 RPM, high track, 15 mph PAP 5.75 Right 1.125 Up

I am not afraid of a MOtion hole or any other advice. TIA

Welcome to the posting side of BowlingChat

To give the layout advice you seek I need a little more information.

Check out this link for help in getting the needed information.

A few questions...
What pound ball are you going to have drilled up?
How is your speed measured?

What is your tilt?

What is your rotation?

What type of lane conditions are you bowling on?
(typical league shot, tournaments, sport patterns, oily condition, dry condition, etc.)

What are you currently rolling? and describe the layout preferably in dual angle terminology

For your information the Motion Hole is for Symmetrical balls., the Tenacity is Asymmetrical.

Thanks! I am 15 Tilt and 55-65 typically on my Axis Rotation, 15 lb ball. The 15 mph is a guess (I was 14.5 using video elapsed time, throwing faster now - maybe 15.5?) League THS - it's dryer in our local houses than when I have played on the road. I noticed it was noticeably longer in a small tourney I bowled in Louisville. So I'd like to drill it for "medium" oil.

All of my balls are second hand currently. Pin in ring or just below seems to work well. None of them blend well... A benchmark layout with a little extra length is what I THINK I would like, but I am open to a schooling :)

For future discussions put your release specs in your signature like I have. It saves on all theses questions and I can figure layouts much quicker.
As far as your speed, is the video elapsed time from release to the pins or calculated in the first 15' of the lane? It matters, the ball slows down alot in the last 15'

It was calculated release to pins and should be 15-15.5 off-hand now.

I just measured the 15# Crux Pearl I have been throwing. It is 45 x 3 5/8 x 60. It flips late for me but hits hard 80% of the time. I think the Root beer smell is irrelevant haha
The Game Breaker 2 MVP 15# is the best hitting of my bunch but is VERY jumpy sometimes. It measured 90 x 4.75 x 66,

Speed measure to the pins is an average I will use 17 off the hand. 270 rpm med tilt and med/high rotation.

I always start with the Benchmark and work from there.
Sweetspot 90* total, 1.25:1 Ratio
Benchmark .............. 50-4-40

The Tenacity is a skid flip type ball that will provide length with a strong backend reaction with the factory surface.
Benchmark layout on dryer lanes is not going to be all that usable but it would be good for your oilier tournament conditions.

I would recommend a Control layout 50-4-60 playing the ball shiny for your dryer house condition and add surface, 1000 grit for your oilier tournament condition.
This layout will need a balance hole. Roll it first before determining where to put the hole.

Have you already purchased the ball?
If so what is the top weight and pin to Cg distance?

You posted again as I was almost ready to post my response.

My recommendation is very similar to your Crux. Unless you are getting rid of the Crux I wouldn't drill the Tenacity so similar to it.
The GameBreaker is a Symmetrical ball. Measure the drilling angle to the thumb hole, It would be more like 100*

To match up and compliment what you already have I would go with the Benchmark 50-4-40.
The same recommendation for a balance hole applies. Also surface adjustment for oilier conditions would be my recommendation as well.

Have you tried any surface adjustments on your existing?
Have you had them de-oiled?
Surface maintenance is important to maintaining or achieving good ball reaction.

The Tenacity's pin is 3.25" and top weight 2.7oz, ball is 15lb-2oz.

The Crux Pearl makes a hard turn, I polished it once without much effect. The GB2MVP I usually move 3 boards right to hit same area as CruxP. It seems to roll earlier (which I thought was backwards after I measured). The are both cleaned/wiped and I have homemade contraption (crock pot with a circulating fan, ball suspended 1" from bottom with the sides of the crockpot extended ~5" to accomodate) - it gets to about 130ish and sweats them clean.

I did scuff the GB2MVP with brown scotchbrite a couple weeks ago. I was just being experimental!

I had guessed 75 x 4 x 35 reading 10 million posts, but am glad to have your informed guidance. 50 x 4 x 40... Not drilling until tomorrow PM. Turbo thumb sleeves did not arrive today!

Polishing the Crux Pearl is just maintaining its original finish. Polished surfaces are for that hard turn on the back end. Duller surfaces smooth out the reaction starting it earlier burning up energy so it doesn't snap so hard on the backend.

The crockpot is a new one for the homemade ball oven idea. I would suggest adding a meat thermometer to make sure you are not overheating your equipment.
