anybody used a roto grip mutant cell (solid)

Post by mrbean »

i saw one on the rack at one of my local bowling alleys and was wondering (if its not too beat up) if it was worth getting.
If I had 6 hours to chop down a tree I would spend the first 4 sharpening the axe.

I used to have 2 of those, 1 @box finish, 1 @4000
By far my favourite ball ever, out of all the balls I own. Love the color, love the roll, love how usable it was even on house shots, at least for a game or two.

Big fan of the Cell series, I have 6 cells in total. This and the original Cell pearl are my favourite balls ever. Unfortunately I have no experience on sport shots with the ball, only on oily house shots.
So take my recommendation with a grain of salt if you want it for tournaments.

i got the ball today, its in decent condition after i resurfaced it. i resurfaced with the following steps:
first i used some metal finishing scotch brite from work too really rough it up, then i used a 360 pad, then i used a 1000 pad and will try it next week to see were it fits in. oh, i also had some random inserts lying around that are better in fit and condition than the older ones.

Have you had a chance to throw it yet?
What conditions are you using it on? 1000 seems like a very low grit for that strong of a ball. I'd assume it needs loads of oil unless you're heavily speed dominant.

Let's hear some impressions mrbean.

my PSO said it was drilled to go long. anyway i threw it last Sunday and it was alright but the span is a little short so its hard to rev it good (that and there is a flat spot on my track). my friend who is a 2 hander loved it. he could get it to comeback from anywhere, in fact he said "let me just loft the gutter with this real quick" so i will probably end up giving it to him but not a bad ball at all its better than that modern marvel i found last time. i would probably buy one NIB but the only one on ebay is going for $300...NOPE!
