Sanding Pads
I currently have sanding pads of the following grits, 500, 2000, and 3000. How long do these last before they need to be replaced?
My Arsenal: Storm Supernova, Storm Absolute, Storm Phaze 3, Rotogrip Idol Cosmos, 900 Global Zen Master, and Storm Punch Out
Re: Sanding Pads
Mo Pinel suggested to use a abralon pad for about 10 balls, then remark the grit to the next smoothest grit. Do 10 more balls with it as the smoother grit, then throw it away.
But a lot depends on the coverstock type and the pressure you use, whether used on a spinner or by hand, wet or dry etc.
If your really heavy handed, you might get only 5-6 balls out of one.
Siaair pads last a bit longer than abralon. Abralon 10, Siaair 20

Re: Sanding Pads
I used twice only if wet sanded by machine. If dry sanded by hand, I seldom count but usually limit to 4 to 5 balls (6 sides / ball).
I have ordered some autonet which is 1/4 of the abralon pad cost. See if they give similar result.

I would like to order some. What's a good place to get a mixed box of them? Only found max 800 grit.ads wrote:I used twice only if wet sanded by machine. If dry sanded by hand, I seldom count but usually limit to 4 to 5 balls (6 sides / ball).

Yes. Max grit is 800. I purchased mostly 500 with a few lower one to remove scratches from balls.bowlaj wrote:

Re: Sanding Pads
I use daisy-shaped CAB sandpaper on a CAB block in various grits 120-320 to cut plug and resurface balls. Fast cutting and long lasting. I get mine through Classic Products @ $1.20 each.
Lasts much longer than pads do, and will cut ball plug flush with the coverstock. Pads, unless they are brand-spankin' new, will often fail to cut ball plug and coverstock at exactly the same rate, leaving the plugs slightly proud of the surface.
