World Series of Bowling

Post by pjape »

Yesterday I was watching some video highlights from the WSOB. When I watched a round on the Shark, I was very surprised.

I always thought the Shark was an inside shot, but there were many bowlers playing very far outside. Bill O'Neill and Liz Johnson were going right up seven. Either they changed the Shark pattern, or the lane surface at the National Bowling Stadium is very high friction.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Oh, and does anyone else think the scores are ridiculously high?

Scores were definitely high, pattern apparently changed from when it was 45' (couldn't find a 2017 chart though), bowling center friction and topography I have no idea.

2016 pattern graph:

The patterns changed this year.
They are slightly higher ratio and lower volume.

I watched it live at the stadium and all of the bowlers were playing all the patterns pretty much the same from the outside. 5, 6 ,7.. There seems to be some area as well for some bowlers.. out to 3 or tugged to 10 and it still hit the pocket. A lot of bowlers were using urethane.

Right Handed, 16-17 mph off hand (14 -15 mph on Qubica reading) ,350 rpm,PAP 4 3/4 x 1/4 up, 17 deg axis tilt, varied rotational axis deg.. usually 45+
