Layout help for kids
I hope that someone can help me with this. I am currently looking to replace a ball that must be drilled wrong. Problem is that when bowling on bumpers the ball hits bumper then rides all the way to the pit. No bounce off ever. I assume something is not right?
House balls always bounce off!!
It's a 6lb plastic ball
It is for a 5 year old.

Re: Layout help for kids
just take the bumpers away, you will be surpriced how wuickly he adapts. My 3 year old hasn't bowled with bumpers for a year and so long as there isn't much imbalance of weight because how slow they throw he hits something most of the time. 8 pound balls seem to be much better in that regard

Re: Layout help for kids
Actually the weight imbalance as to be the problem. When ball is weighed has almost 1.5 oz of bottom weight I think this is a little much for a 6 lb ball??
Also I was asking to know how to drill the ball. Pin in center of grip??

No they don't, I've seen plenty ride the bumper down. It's mainly just speed, spin and how they hit.Lledsmarttam wrote: House balls always bounce off!!
House balls are drilled straight up, close to being “balanced” , their not weighted in some special way.
FYI: Straight up means a label drill, Which came from when the CG was typically placed in the label and the CG was placed in the palm.

I realize the house balls are supposed to be drilled with not much weight imbalance. That is why I ask. The ball that is drilled for my daughter has 1.5 oz bottom weight on 6lb ball.
For my daughter they do. If she throws her own ball once it hits bumper, no matter how far down lane , the ball will ride the bumper to the pit. If I get her a house ball it doesn't.
I have had her bowling at least 10 times and know what I see.

One option then would be take the house ball that always bounces off. Have the PSO weigh it all out and copy the weighting & layout off of it and drill up your daughters ball using that.Lledsmarttam wrote:For my daughter they do. Re: Layout help for kids
Or have your driller add a balance hole to take the 1 1/5 of bottom weight out. Keep in mind that she might roll over the hole. -- JohnP

If the ball actually has Styrofoam as the filler, probably not.Lledsmarttam wrote:Thank you and yes I have that chart already in my records. Is that chart actually accurate on a ball that Scott a Styrofoam fill
Exactly what brand/name of ball is she using? That's filled with styrofoam.

Ebonite Zoom Glow. 6 lbs. if not styrofoam it's an alternative very light filler.

Re: Layout help for kids
You said 1.5 oz of bottom weight, what about side or finger/thumb weight?
If you want to add top weight drill out the holes larger and plug those holes. Then redrill the the smaller grip holes and you have added top weight with the plug material being more dense than the lightweight core/filler.

Re: Layout help for kids
Interesting. Side weight is like .05oz and I never checked finger weight
Thanks for the suggestion though. Sounds like good idea.
