I have all my older equipment drilled with thumb pitches of 5/16-3/16 reverse pitch.
My newer equipment I have started drilling 1/16 reverse. Since doing so my speed has picked up close to 1.5 mph on the monitor.
Is this normal? And also is this because I am having to grab the ball through the swing with the more drastic reverse pitch?
Hopefully someone has some insight!
Ps I like the newer one of less reverse. Feels much cleaner off my hand.

With more reverse thumb pitch more grip pressure is needed to hold on to the ball. Excessive grip pressure can and will rob you of ball speed.

Just confirming mostly. New to the game of drilling with no formal training. Knowledge is power.

Re: Thumb pitch and relation to speed
well, couldn't make the tournaments today due to car issues, so, decided to practice.
I got new shoes and moved my thumb pitches to 0 fwd/rev and 1/16 away ovaled. my speed increased 2mph. lanes sorta medium 38' ths. beat up from kids this morning.
just stayed away from traffic area best as I could. pretty much down and in 7-8bd at arrows. couldn't let up. both high games had split opens, second one 2 opens. shoes were a bit sticky making it hard to post.
I still had to snug my thumb fit with tape to throw it right. was more concerned with shoes and didn't add tape the last 2gms like I should have. That changed my speed just slightly. It Definitely helps keep speed up making sure thumb fit is right because you don't have to hold onto the ball.
Stats for 08/11 were better with my old shoes and keeping thumb fit right. both days 1st games were warmup games.
I like these SSTs.
