gonna be replacing my misfit pearl...what to get

Post by mrbean »

my first ball was the DV8 misfit pearl (neon yellow) i am replacing it for the following reasons: fingers are too small, too light, its pretty beat up. currently its my weak/spare ball
here are some of the balls i was going to replace it with: venom shock, tank rampage, bulls-eye, tropical storm, rhino, mix, hyper sniper, fanatic BTU pearl, match up pearl, tag cannon.
any of these sound good or any that don't?
here's some pictures of the misfit. it looks cleaner in the pictures. and yes i could have the fingers redrilled and resurface it but its still too light (i throw 14 lbs this ball is 13)

decided to get a urethane ball since i have never had a good urethane ball.
i narrowed it down to the tank rampage or btu pearl
i compared the 2 balls using the ball comparison on bowlingthismonth.com.
the strange thing is that it says the pearl has less length than the tank which surprises me considering the polished pearl coverstock compared to the sanded solid on the tank
here's a link if you want to see the chart

mrbean,
I hope you realize that the BTU pearl is a reactive ball and not a urethane. BTU stands for Better Than Urethane. It supposedly has the same shape and reaction as urethane even though it is reactive. If your looking for a urethane that has some power I would suggest The Crow from Visionary bowling products.
I have it and I'm an ancient lefthander (77 years young) and the ball works well on medium oil up to 43 feet for me.

At 14# I would go with the Blue Hammer. It has a bit more dynamic core to work with.
You will probably want to take the surface down to 2000 to give you a stronger look. The factory 4000 goes pretty long.

depends on what you want. I have both and have seen them both in lower weights as well. the purple pearl is a beast while the blue hammer acts much more as a really mild resin with how clean it goes through the heads and midlane, just without any pop on the backend

I need to know your release specs if I am to give layout recommendations.

Check out his link for the information needed for layout and ball advice.

Closest ball I'd say is the Radical Rack Attack.

i got a good deal on an octane carbon (ebay auction). as for layout recommendations, some of that info i can give but some will be a guess as i have never actually had someone measure this stuff
bowling hand: right
speed: 13-14 on the monitor
revs: 280-300 (not sure)
axis rotation: 50-70 degrees (not sure)
axis tilt: 10-15 degrees (not sure)
lane surface: mostly synthetic, i don't have a lot of real wood lanes around me
lane conditions: THS
i would say i am a slightly rev dominant tweener.
(the revs, axis rotation, and axis tilt were based on the storm matchmaker)
here is the line i usually play with my misfit.

That shape is not physically possible in the current bowling environment.
No ball can cover 15 boards in 10 feet or less.

sorry its not accurate, its hard to try to make that from memory.
i stand with my left foot at the 3rd dot from the left and throw over the 2nd arrow from the right
here is a video from a couple months ago of me using it (start it at 4:47) . the next 3 frames are with the misfit, my first throw is the best (i pulled the other 2, oops).

excuse the crappy camera
