Are you trying to access from an iOS device? Ovalator app was made in flash and those devices do not support it, I've checked and the program and the link is active right now. Maybe when you tried to access the server was down.

I guess you're clicking on the first link, but that one points to a discussion here in bowlingchat.net from where the app came out. The second link is the good one and it's alive:

Thanks 2y2. I was able to view it yesterday the server maybe down during the last time I was accessing it. My question, I was able to pull out the excel you made in the other thread related to this. is X0 for lateral and Y0 for linear pitches?2y2 wrote:I guess you're clicking on the first link, but that one points to a discussion here in bowlingchat.net from where the app came out. Re: Program for drilling ovals
2y2, I am not sure if my output is correct. My lateral pitch is 1/8" left and linear pitch is 1/16" forward and oval angle is 30*. The output it gives me is .008 / 1/64" lateral and .14 / 9/64" linear. I'm fine with the calculations for the linear, but on the lateral, .008 isn't the same as 1/64". I want to try this out for practice, just need the know which lateral number is correct, .008 or 1/64"?. Thanks for your help.

Re: Program for drilling ovals
iamone78,
The thing here is that the app precision in fractional inches is limited to 1/64, less than that it will not be accurate and the smallest output of less than 1/64 will show 1/64, the output you get is 1/125 which is ridiculously small. I recommend you to use 0.008 if your drill press is accurate enough if it's not, then use 0.

Re: Program for drilling ovals
Thanks for the clarification. I have digital scales, so no issues on getting to .008.

Re: Program for drilling ovals
Thank you for your prompt reply. The Ovalator you made is terrific. The ony question I have is how do I know the size of the cuts to be made. For an example, a Left handed bowler with a 45° angle. I thank you very much for all your help.

Re: Program for drilling ovals
Hello bennymedina, just mark a line where your oval should end, if you want to make many small increments keep on moving the plate until you reach that line. Or if you want to be more precise, you can substract the diameter of the bit from the total size of the oval and divide it by the number of increments you want to drill, that will give you the size of each movement.

Re: Program for drilling ovals
Just my 2 cents, but in general, when doing ovals your cuts shouldn't be more than .015" / cut. Any larger and you may risk chatter/excessive vibration leading to inaccurate holes. Also dull bits can cause inaccurate cuts as well.bennymedina wrote: The ony question I have is how do I know the size of the cuts to be made. For an example, a Left handed bowler with a 45° angle. Re: Program for drilling ovals
Just drilled my first oval using the Flash app, and it came out perfectly! What a great timesaver.
It is a little different, lining up off the oval angle - but very easy and accurate.
I use an ADT grip with quite a bit of left lateral and reverse pitch and no problems at all.

Re: Program for drilling ovals
For some unknown reason the whole domain is unreachable from Finland. I do not know if this consider the whole Scandinavia or Europe but I tried the network connections from work and from home. Bowlingchat forum worked well the whole time but the link to ovalator won't open with any browser. (sacandinavian issue?)

I don't know, I'll send it to megamav, maybe he can host it in the bowlingchat.net servers, I guess it will be best for all.
