I was just wondering if this program could be used to calculate a modification in finger pitches?
My finger pitches were:
Middle finger = 1/4 forward & 1/4 left
Ringer finger = 1/4 reverse & 5/8 right
I need to take some pressure off my middle finger joint but want to keep the same fit adjustment that Mo gave me to give me more tilt.
I've told my driller to change each of my fingers 1/8 reverse only. That would make them:
Middle finger = 1/8 forward & 1/4 left
Ringer finger = 3/8 reverse & 5/8 right
Since I am "C" on the finger fan chart (24deg.) that adjustment only would change the laterals, also, from my CLT comfort positions.
If I could plug in the 24 degrees offset and the 1/8 finger reverse change into your program to tell me how much to tell the driller to change the laterals to maintain what I currently have that would be cool.

I'm not quite following, could you draw what you want to acheive? My guess is that giving the correct angle in the oval angle field we can get a good result but I need to understand it clearly first.

I am asking for a way to convert from my grip center line finger pitches to my CLT line finger pitches then back to my grip center line finger pitches after changes.
There is a 24 deg. Difference between to two.

Hi John,
Assuming you're right handed you can get the result you're looking for making some changes in the way you input data, because this case is the reverse case compared to drilling ovals.
I'm making the next considerations:
You're pitching the holes relative to the CLT line which is 24º counterclockwise from the vertical center line of your grip, with these values:
Middle finger = 1/8 forward & 1/4 left
Ringer finger = 3/8 reverse & 5/8 right
You want to know what are those pitches relative to the real vertical center line of your grip.
Then you have to use the program this way:
- You set the program as Left handed bowler
- Input your pitches as normal (the ones I wrote before)
- Instead of the 24º you input 66º (90º-24º)
- That's it, there you have it.
Results must be:
Middle finger = .0125" (9/32) forward & 0.2792" (1/64) left (Note that fractional reads are less accurate)
Ringer finger = 0.884" (3/32) reverse & 0.7235" (23/32) right
I have confirmed the results graphically, not on any ball.
I haven't tested the program for this purpose but I think it works this way.
I don't know very well the CLT method so I don't know if my assumptions are correct.

after drilling the pilot hole with desired thumb pitches do you zero out the pitches to make the oval cuts or leave them alone and continue on?

1. Trace the ball.
2. Trace the pilot hole center.
3. Trace a line that passes through the pilot hole center along the long axis of the oval hole (oval angle).
4. Set the pitches as the program output.
5. Place the ball on the press and rotate it about the pilot hole center until the line of step 3 is on the "Y" axis of the press.
6. Fix the ball.
7. Drill the pilot hole.
8. Move the Y axis crank in very small increments and cut.
9. Repeat step 7 until you get the desired oval hole width.
As you see, you only set the pitches once and cut, there's no need to zeroing anything else.

Showed this program to another small center with an old press, and the driller is giddy about drilling ovals. Feels good to have come up with a concept to help people, and great job again making it work.
