Vise Vacuum System

Post by Arkansas »

Does anyone have any experience with the Vise Vacuum System or something similar? I'm thinking about trying a DIY version of this in my shop.

Here is how Mo does them:

To allow for swelling, drill a hole 1/32" larger than the hole for the insert 1" deep (3/4" deep for short finger tips) at the cut span distance, then change the bit to the correct size for the insert and flush the bit against the front wall of the hole and drill it the desired depth. This will allow for the knuckle to swell and still keep the tip of the finger at the correct place at the bottom of the hole. I call these fake Vacu grips.

Personally, I use 1 1/16" hole for 31/32 inserts. 1" hole for 7/8" inserts

I'm thinking the OP meant the vacuum system for shop cleanliness, not the grips...

Thanks elgavachon, that's useful info too, but J_Mac is correct, I meant the shop vac system they have. I should've been clearer in the OP. Sorry for the confusion.

It works fantastic...Better than described. There are many custom made parts included with the system that would take a lot of time, money and trips to the store to figure out on your own that would not justify doing it yourself in my opinion.

I watched Dave demo this in Louisiana last year and was VERY impressed with what I was seeing. Worth the investment in my opinion as it will all but eliminate dust from your shop, which means less in your lungs.

the shop I took over a couple of years ago already had a homemade system that is very similar already installed in the shop. However, the vise vacuum system is much better and i will be ordering one soon for my shop.

Looks like I got charged $381. I think they said $349 plus shipping. I'll confirm when I see the invoice. I just got the base package.

Anyone who has one of these can tell me how quickly you go through the bags?

ie. How many balls can you drill before the bag needs replacing?

I am looking at purchasing the system but the cost of the vacuum bags is very high?

I'm not sure. They cost too much for me to justify using them. We just use the empty barrel. Works just as well for what I'm trying to accomplish. Just make sure you take the barrel outside before you open the lid.

Arkansas,

Surely that voids one of the main advantages to system of pro-longing your vacuums life by making sure no dirt ever makes it to the vacuum motor?

Also I have done the maths as I have been informed you can drill roughly 50-60 balls per bag.

The bags in the UK work out to ~ £10 each divided by 50 balls is £0.20/ball. For the sake of saving my expensive vacuum cleaner and my lungs which I am quite fond of, this sounds like a worthwhile and negligible cost per ball?

This wasn't on list of things I was trying to accomplish. I just wanted to not have to empty the vacuum every other day and to route the vacuums all over the shop. Also, I keep the filter on the vacuum itself. It's basically a setup like this now. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/202101 ... ckets.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know about 50-60 balls per bag. That seems way higher than what I was getting, but I also have the vacuum on the workbench feeding into it as well. Once the bag is about half full, the system stops sucking. For me, the system works fine without the bag. If you're concerned about breathing the dust in, the only time that happens is when you empty the barrel. You can easily buy a dust mask. Here's a 50 pack for way cheaper than what 50 of those bags would cost. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

How do you think one of these would work, it fits a 30 gal metal trash can and would fit between the vacuum and the dust source? -- JohnP

Reviving this ooooold thread. The shop I'm in now has the system, but doesn't use it. When I asked they gave two reasons:

1) Not enough suction with the normal 6-6.5 HP shop vac.
2) Because we don't have another space to keep the vac, it's just as loud as before. (I guess they were told it could keep noise down if the vacuum is behind a wall/structure.)

Anyone still using this thing? Did anyone deal with low pressure?
