Help for Pro Shop Operators During Challenging Times

Post by kajmk »

Thought I'd start a thread requesting folks to share their experience, suggestions, advice for pro shop operators during these challenging times.

I respectfully ask that we refrain from assertions, opinions, beliefs about the current anomalous situation we find ourselves in. It's a hot potato that can serve no constructive purpose and risk alienating heretofore bowling buddies.

Again, this is for the sake of helping pro shop operators make the best of difficult situations. I'm not in the industry, have no financial interests.
Still in love with the sport and trying to help it grow.

Stay Positive, Safe, Healthy, Respectful, Find reasons to smile.

Cheerio y'all.
May all beings everywhere be happy and free,
and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life
contribute in some way to that happiness
and to that freedom for all.

Do whatever you feel comfortable with that meets your state’s requirements. Consult with your area OSHA inspectors

It looks like the industry is going to surge ahead, kind of like cruise ships.

In preparation, masks will be required to be worn at all times while in the shop. As did so many others in the retail arena, we're installing a plexiglass shield over the counter. Customer hand sanitizing? We'll probably go with a spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol. Also, an air purification unit will be installed.

Hopefully.....we don't encounter any resentful patrons. Personally, that is my biggest concern. You just never know how a person is going to respond to any given situation.

If you do, shrug your shoulders and just say, "Hey, if we didn't do this, we wouldn't be able to open. You might be able to afford to rebel and not wear your mask or whatever, but we NEED to open, we NEED to get going. . . and this isn't really that much, so we are doing what we need to do to open our doors. As SOON as we can, we'll drop all this stuff, but for now we gotta do what we gotta do . . . now, let's see that ball. What's your PAP again?"

Moonlighting at a brewery (not as much during this, but gotten a few gigs) and you know how beer can fuel resentment. . . putting the onus on those making the regulations and away from us really helps - whether or not we agree with it. It's about deflection. :)
