Thumb exit 16lb vs 15 lb balls

Post by slash300 »

As an aging player, I've been transitioning to 15lb equipment after throwing 16lb equipment for 40+ years. I've noticed that the inertia at the release point with 16lb equipment makes my thumb exit quicker. Anyone else notice this when moving down in weight? If so, does anyone make thumb pitch adjustments to get out quicker in lighter equipment? I'm thinking this could be related to mechanics as well since I may be using too much muscle at the wrong time instead of letting the swing come through. Thoughts?

As people age there is a tendensy to become less flexible. You should consider getting your hand analysed by a good ball fitter with a view to changing the pitches, particularly the thumb pitches.
