Polishing/finishing Vise CS Hybrid ball plug...

Post by snick »

Is there some trick to getting a hard polished finish on Vise Hybrid Ball plug?
I've been experimenting with it for the past few weeks, and the surface finish always seems limited to a more or less dull finish.
The texture and hardness of the cured compound resembles polyethylene.

Please call Vise customer service for help getting the finish you desire with this product. We have received numerous pictures from the field where it is very difficult to tell the plug from the actual ball. The product is different than other products you may have used and takes a little time to get familiar with it. When you figure it out I am confident you will be hooked.

Thank you sir.
I have talked to John on the phone and he gave some helpful suggestions.
I will be meeting with him at Bowl Expo and in Montrose CO, when I pass through there after the Expo, to look at the Powervac Milldrill system.

Any videos that show the proper way to mix the plug?

I start with the coffee colored Hardener, add color, then add the clear resin.
Stir in figure 8 motion slowly, then scrape around the edge of the cup slowly.
To avoid trapped air bubbles, do not over-mix.

I sand the sides of the holes with 180 grit sandpaper to promote adhesion.
Be sure the holes have squared shoulders, and are absolutely clean and free of dust or moisture.
Let the plug cure at 24 hours before cutting/finishing if possible. I get much better results that way.

FYI: Do not make or use gumdrops with this plug; it does not stick to itself, and the drill may tear out the drops.

Certainly some good advice...I've read many other suggestions/comments on the proper way to mix but apparently my grasp of the written language must be lacking because my results have been mixed...a good video might help since everyone says it is the best plug they have ever used .

I've never used the Vise plug, but when I plug I use a Dremel tool with a router bit to gouge the hole in three or four places around the diameter to lock the plug in. I've never had a plug come out. -- JohnP

Thanks for the advice John but I am looking for a video of how to properly mix the plug so I can achieve the results of others...I would hope in this day of everyone having a smartphone that others who have consistent success with the plug could help those of us that need some visual help.

I have a question regarding this Vice CS Hybrid plug as well, with the hardener being coffee coloured what is everyone using to colour this plug, how do you make lime green, or yellow or any light colour for that matter.

For 60cc total plug volume, I add 10-15 drops of the base color (Pink for example) to the Hardener, then add white, one or two drops at a time until the color is just slightly dimmer than the desired color.
Adding resin to the hardener brightens the color, and more or less removes the brown tint.
