new layout carry problem

Post by poloidrogo »

I just bought a new Roto Grip Halo two week ago and get it drill it. I used a layout 50 x 4 1/4 x 70. so I used for two weeks on my regular league and definitely no carry at all. I was on the packet all night and leaving 10 pin and some times 8 pin. I used the factory surface finish the 1st week then next week I polished because I want little more length, but no changes at all. So my question is that it could be a bad layout which is pin down on this ball or probably not match my game. I weight the ball and it have a difference between top and bottom of 1.80 oz and .80oz to left to right. do you guys think that I probably need a wight hole on this ball. I know the rules change but seem like we have until 2019.

Any suggestion ???

Speed 15 mhp
PAP 4 1/5 x 1/2 up
70° axis rotation
not sure about Axis Tilt
14 lbs bowling ball

Thanks Much !!!

You are very rev dominant.
The layout you have on the Halo is more of a midlane layout

I suspect that the ball is burning up early and hitting the pocket flat.
Surface adjustment was not successful as you already tried.
Ideally you would want a P1 balance hole to effectively increase the totals but you don't have finger weight to work with.
With a balance hole for this year you need to keep the static weight within the 1 oz limit.

Without a balance hole you can utilize the 3 oz imbalance of the new rule.

Short of plugging and re-drilling I suggest drilling the ring finger 4" deep.
Drilling the ring finger deeper will act like a P1 balance hole reducing the flare and effectively raising the totals.

If you choose to plug and re-drill I suggest a low flare layout ..... 85-2-55

That halo has a monster cover... and unless you have an appropriate amount of head oil it will start flaring early and hit like a marshmellow.

I have a similar layout and what helped the most was taking the cover to 4k.

It stopped trying to flare early and retained energy on the backend. It still needs a LOT of oil to be good, but you bought a monster hook ball using it on the correct conditions is key.

Just my .02
