Ball type for league transition

During league on THS, what ball type is good during the transition phase? A skid flip ball like a mid/upper-level pearl? Or, a smooth reaction like a mid-level solid? I looking for a ball to replace my Storm Crux Peart(has a weight hole) and my Timeless (does not react as it used to). My Storm Punch Out still has the good backend, but the core is weak. It is still a good ball on medium to dry lanes.

I am having the same issues in my league. I start with my hyper cell skid but it’s too aggressive. I recently got a hyroad and I’m really happy with it so far. Maybe that’s something you might look into

Best of luck

I use the Winner Pearl (symm) with 75x4.25"x30 layout. Pin is about 1.25" above and to the right of the ring finger. I pretty much strike at will with this ball from deep inside angles after the lanes open up. Cover is too smooth/squirty for fresh/long/heavy patterns, but I still usually score in the 2-teens with it if I move a bit right and hit my target consistently.

I believe I have asked this question myself. With the knowledge I know now, there is way too many factors involved to answer this properly.

Take these 2 cases.
Case 1
The last Monday I bowled, I started off with a Ripped solid (which I never use anything that strong but they had a lot of oil out). I was playing 10-11 out to 7-8 at the breakpoint or so and back in. I was bowling with different combinations of people. 2 threw straight balls up the middle, 1 threw a curve from 14 to 10 and in, and a few played the track. Once my ball hit a dead zone and rolled out it was time to change. I went down to a Rotogrip hustle drilled pin down. I moved my feet 2 boards right and played 10 out to 8 and shot 10/12 strikes in a hard house. (2 balls thrown off track and my fault). Going from a ripped to a hustle is like going down 2 steps. An immediate step down would been like a storm hy-road. I went down to a ball that I knew that had the same shape as what the ripped was giving me at the time.

Case 2
Thursday. Thursday is a lot of plastic balls being thrown straight up the middle or atleast people trying to do so. Many have 100 or less average and off target a lot. I used the rip just like I did on Monday. I decided to try what I did on Monday out. Got the Hustle threw the ball in the same spot as I did Monday. The ball slid all the way down and had just a little tad of turn if that and barely hit the 3. I threw it good had 300+ revs on that ball. The reason that ball didn't work was because of the excessive carry down out there generated by those plastic balls. To combat this situation, the proper move (which depends on how you throw the ball and a lot of other factors) but the proper move for me was to move my break point left 2 boards or so and play straighter. A strong ball is also needed, because your playing in more concentrated oil as you move left. I grabbed a radical conspiracy and threw the ball 13 at the arrows out to 10-11 at the breakpoint and back in.

So the moral of this mess is, you have to see how the lanes are being played by what equipment being played with (everytime you bowl against a different team, things will be different.). Sometimes when lanes transition you just move left a little, Then sometimes you move zones, then sometimes you have to move back right a tad and go straighter.

The best thing you can do is know which each of your balls are capable of and when you like to use each.

take the situation today.
in practice I took a radical ridiculous, riped and Game breaker 3. The ripped looked like it was struggling playing where I was playing at 10 out to 8. The ridiculous looked really good. The game breaker 3 I had to move right a board and it didn't look like I was projecting the ball out far enough right for the gamebreaker. I threw the first ball really well and the radical jumped and over hooked on me on the first ball and went super high. I don't like that 'woah, where did that come from look" and said to myself let me go with something with a more even backend reaction and grabbed the GB3. I thought about the tight reaction I got with it in the practice shots and decided to give it a little room. I moved 1 board left, threw it out a little bit and the gb3 went perfectly there. I got 5/6 strikes with 1 ball being thrown bad.

So when you think transition, you can think what is going on in that area with that ball. is the over all oil just being depleted and it is just a little drier and that ball is just too strong for that area now? If that is the case ball down and your good. Is there a bunch of carry down being accumulated in one spot toward the middle now? If that is the case I would treat the lane like a longer pattern play more toward the middle. Is there some oil in the midlane in the track area and the further north you go it gets extremely dry and basically a dead zone? If so play left of that area and move the breakpoint left several boards. use a moderately strong ball atleast.

Transition changes each outing based on the other bowlers on the pair and the topography of the lanes themselves. I think that you would be much more successful by looking for the right adjustment rather than a magic bowling ball (that doesn't exist).
