weird layout on a storm sync

i got a used storm sync the other day and i expected it to be strong like my sure lock. i tried playing deep my first shot and it rolled into the 3 6. i took it in the my pro shop and he said it had no core dynamics. the cg was in the palm and was about 2 inches out of line the pin and mb (will get a picture up tomorrow). i can play it up 10 with good results. he said you get out of it what you put into it meaning if you have a lot of revs it will move a lot but lower revs and it won't. i heard some one on ballreviews.com say they wanted a pancake weight block with GI-17 cover well this layout might be as close as you can get.

The pin and mass bias are what is important. The CG making a difference is outdated thinking. And with the new rules, it makes not requiring a weight hole even more attainable.

Seems curious. I roll 2 different Syncs, each surfaced differently and with slightly different layouts, and do well with both, either down and in or swinging the ball. Post a picture of your layout and what your specs are so I can see how they compare to mine and to the layouts I have on my Syncs.

here is the layout. i don't know much about layouts but talking to 3 people all said it had no core dynamics

Time to start learning and hanging out with people that actually know what they're talking about.

let me clarify what my PSO told me, he said the ball had no side weight. which i guess takes the core out of play

:o

In my opinion, I think it would be best for your game to find a PSO that understands what affects ball motion. What your PSO is saying, could not be more wrong.

Good luck

The cg does not matter as much as some people seem to think. Most important is the surface of the coverstock, then the layout. The layout should be based on the conditions you are encountering.

The CG doesn't really come into play. That layout should generally work, but you should really know your PAP and other specs also. You probably should experiment with surface choice to try and get the reaction you are looking for. I like to use a 500-4000 skip-grit finish on both of mine for house shots, and let one of them stay lane-shined while the other I keep the surface fresh with a sheen finish. One has a P3 hole (more continuous for me) and the other has a hole 2" down on the VAL (more hook-set for me). So, I'd say re-do the surface, and even with the upcoming rule changes regarding weight holes, it wouldn't hurt to add a P3 to get more out of the ball. You also said you bought it used, so maybe it also needs a good de-oiling.

alright so now i have 2 questions generally what kind of reaction does that layout give. and with the cg out of line like that could this be a second

Normally would be a long and strong.

You dont know this.
You dont know his PAP and you dont know his tilt to make that educated guess.

Hence the word “normally”.

Looking at your photo that's a common layout, there's nothing weird about it.

As Mega said without knowing your PAP location nobody can be specific on the reaction you will get.

But in general that configuration is similar to the length and backend layouts shown for a high track bowlers in the generic layouts shown in a lot of the Storm/Roto and others drill sheets.

and with the cg out of line like that could this be a second
If it is only 2 inches out from the Pin and PSA line then No, According to Storms manufacturing definitions. For it to be a Pro-CG ball, The CG has to be more than 2 1/2" from a line drawn from the Pin to PSA.

Also if it was a Pro-CG they still consider it a First.

As MegaMav stated, you need to find another proshop operator. And the fact that you got those other answers from those people that don't know anything worth its salt is only confusing you even more.

That layout could very well be a 4 x 4 x 2 layout which is a standard for a layout given by storm. But, if you could get us your pap (positive axis point), speed off hand or on the monitor, rev rate, axis rotation and axis tilt we can make a much more accurate guess on what you actually have for a layout.

mrbean, I see you are located in Cincinnati. I highly recommend driving down to Newport, KY to Hitt's Pro Shop. Josh does a great job and works with Mo all the time.
