“I Had A Farm In Africa.......”

Says the main character, played by Meryl Streep, in the movie, “Out Of Africa.”

In my bowling life in my forties, I had a wrist support. At the time, I was convinced that I needed it, to keep my wrist from bending back.

This time around, I decided to bowl as unencombered by “gadgets” as much as possible. So far, that has worked for me. I’m still using chalk, and the air dryer, and a micro-fiber cloth for wiping down the ball, but that’s about it for what I carry in my bag.......

What’s in YOUR bag these days, that you ritualistically apply or wear, as part of your preparation and game tools???? A special shirt??? Everyone has their own unique style. How about pre-game rituals?
That favorite meal or particular Alley or particular lane IN your favorite Alley??

Wow!! What’s in your bag is so secret that you can’t reveal it here!?

Maybe I need to rethink what I carry?!

You know, I’m a part of a variety of Forums. I ride a motorcycle that has a sidecar and so I belong to a sidecar Forum. I play a variety of instruments, and so I am a member of a few different Forums, with regard to musical instruments. I also belong to a separate motorcycle Forum, a ukulele Forum, and other Forums.

In each case, I try to review the current topics; especially those that relate to any specific questions I have, as I come into that Forum.

That said, it is also true, that other people who come into the Forum, are also going to be new to that Forum, and the questions will be somewhat the same. In one particular Forum that I belong to, I have something like 5,000 posts, and so you might imagine that I’m in there frequently.

Because I am a rather senior member in that environment, I see the newbies that come in and ask some of the same questions that have been asked 1,000 times before. I can appreciate the frustration that that presents for senior members, because I have experienced it myself.

When a Forum has been around for a while, you can imagine it accumulates a massive amount of information over that period of time. Yes, you can use the search function, and that sort of abbreviates the quest for finding what you’re looking for, but sometimes it’s a lot simpler to ask the question again. I know it requires the patience of the senior members and their generosity, to make it successful for those newbies, but I can tell you that the newbies do appreciate it.

I recently went to a boat show in a Colosseum nearby, and there was a person standing at the ticket counter, and they were barking out verbal instructions to the people showing up to buy tickets. I can imagine that that person who was having to verbalize those instructions over and over again, all day long, must’ve sounded and felt like a broken record, but that person was giving out information that was valuable, and needed to be repeated.

I realize my question probably has been answered 10,000 times already since this Forum began, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Yes, Forums are places where information is shared for the benefit of all, but it is also a place for building community. And that’s a good thing as well.

The Bowling Chat wiki is a great source of information, click on the radio button at the top right of every forum page. The "Mo Says" topic is another, see the link below. -- JohnP
