Hello --- Compared to many of you, I am a novice bowler who has rarely bowled on anything other than a THS. In a few weeks, I will be bowling in a tournament using the USBC Blue 38' oil pattern. I'm hoping you can offer some advise on how best to approach this particular oil pattern. Also, what would be the preferable ball choice and layout for me? I'm strictly a stroke type player - always keep my angles closed playing straight up the boards. My specs are:

325 rpm
16 mph
35* rotation
10* tilt
5" - 1/2" up PAP

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks ... COM

If its Blue 3, I've bowled on it.
Not as easy as it appears and will require at least a medium ball with surface.
A Radical Tremendous with a benchmark layout would be a good choice.
Start outside of 5 with a smooth, clean delivery.

One thing to be aware of is the different numbers of the patterns (Blue 1, 2, 3) represent changes needed based on lane and environmental differences from house to house. The intent is to provide a pattern that is consistent house to house.

That said, the Blue pattern will play differently in each house and differently on each lane in a house. Be open to different areas of the lane and pay attention to areas of the lanes the more successful bowlers are playing.

Good luck!!!
