Getting back to the lanes

Hello,
New here.
I'm getting back to the lanes after a 17 year hiatus. Everything has changed. I'm so lost now.

I am hoping for some help with a new ball. I have a new spare ball, TZone that I really like. I used to be very successful throwing this ball for everything, but now the lanes are different, the oil is different, the ball is really only good for spares. I need a ball that will hook a bit, but not force me to completely change how I roll.

I'm female, 51, RH, 11# right now but working back up to a 13# (shoulder injuries from playing roller derby) roll a pretty straight ball. handshake release.
In the late 1990s, I had a 186 average. Try to get it back again, rolled 4 games today with the
highest being a 159, so it's coming.

I need advice. Please. I'm looking at the Black Window and the Nitrous.
With a handshake release, will either of those give me the gentle hook I'm looking for?

So much new stuff to learn now. I'm overwhelmed and just want to roll a ball in league play and not embarrass myself too much. I have no idea what my rev is or even how fast my ball goes down the lane.

Can you all help? Is there a better ball for me than the two mentioned above? I'm looking at 12 pounds now and when I'm able, can move to 13#

Thank you all. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Welcome to BowlingChat and welcome back to bowling.

Of your 2 ball choices I would go with the Nitrous. It will be a nice step up from your Tzone and make a good 2 ball combo.
There are other balls in the same price point out there that are very comparable to the Nitrous. One that comes to mind is the Ebonite Cyclone. It has more hook potential and it is available in several different colors like the Nitrous is.

Thank you Eric,
Can you tell me why not the Widow urerthane?
Just to understand the difference.

Thank you!

I would not recommend a Urethane as a primary ball in a 2 ball set. The core in the 12# Widow is Very weak. It is almost twice the price of the Nitrous. You want it as a stepping stone to get you back up to 13#, I can't see paying top dollar for something you plan to abandon possibly in the next year.

For a handshake release and gentle hook with probably a little low ball speed, maybe the Rotogrip Hustle Ink Solid drilled for control. (I have one haven't used it much)

Then a step up would be a Hy-road from storm (Maybe this hy-road nano? I am not sure how it differs)
Both these balls are very smooth rolling Non jumpy balls.

I'm going with both the Widow Urethane and the Nitrous.

My son is getting into bowling as well and if one doesn't work well for me, it will be re-drilled for him to see if it's good for him.

And I also have a daughter who wants to bowl, so these balls might have places to go if they are not good for me.

Thanks for your help.
