Two old balls have very different tracks, need guidance

Post by JJakobsen »

I got two old balls that I made a quick picture of in Photoshop to illustrate. The PAP, Pin, CG, MB and balance hole placements are just approximate. I know the PAP on the VG Nano, the span is around 4" on both balls on middle finger, Sarge Easter makes my ring finger around 3 1/2 if I remember correctly. The Pin on the VG Nano is close to the Sarge Easter hole, might've been drilled out when there was a full fingertip ring finger hole just above my current ring finger hole.

What confuses me is these two things:
Why does it seem that the 900 Global Boost flares the opposite way of the VG Nano? The Boost has the bow tie just above the middle finger hole, and flares neatly around it. The last wetflare is 45 degrees on a made up line at a right angle to the center of T-grip line. The VG Nano however, starts with a high up PAP, going at 30 degrees away from the thumb, with a center of T-grip line as base, and then it flares away from the fingers and around the thumb hole... This is what I don't get at all.

When I am getting a couple of new balls soon, where can I actually place the Pin to be safe from any hole tracking? The VG Nano is going full retard on me, tracking over everything it pleases, and that seems like, well, it is a PAP and track to go by. Then comes the Boost and destroys all my life visions and understanding of the universe. As for axis migration on the VG Nano, as it is so easy to see, it stops for a while (maybe 1/4 of a second) having my middle finger hole as its axis point, before it migrates on. That would obviously mean that the track is around 2" below my thumb hole, on a right angle to T-grip center line.

If you wanna, I thought about getting a Storm Timeless, Storm Marvel Pearl (if I can get hold of it), and a Storm Mix. Plan is to drill up two house balls with grips till we get one I like, get the Mix drilled, get a PAP off of it, then use that to drill the other two. But if we go by the 3" right, 2" up PAP I have now on all sarge easter balls except the Boost, where is safe? All my specs:

PAP: 3" right by 2" up
Rpm: 400+/-25
Speed (foul line compensated from Qubica sensors): 15.5mph
Axis rotation: Up the back, 10-15 degrees ish.
Axis tilt: 0, I have had negative tilt on erranous balls now and then.
Lane conditions mostly seen: 44ft modified WTBA Tokyo

Maybe this should be moved to Mo and Friends, Layout advice?

I suspect a difference in fit to cause that much difference in initial track flare.

There is a slight difference, but my Fanatic BTU has its grip drilled the same as the Boost, and it goes at the same angle compared to the holes, but tracks over the thumb hole.

That ball is weird btw, hooked like 2 boards, untill i polished the hell outta it. Now it hooks 10 boards... Don't even try to explain that one :D

Could the CG and MB markings be wrong? If they are significantly off, it might pull the track, but I don't suspect by THAT much.

I also suspect fit, thumb seems to be exiting way later in the Nano.

Since the Nano is flaring backwards, maybe this would be of help:
Mo Pinel wrote:
There are only 2 ways to get the ball to flare the wrong way:

1) Place the pin (low RG axis),past the VAL.
2) Place the low RG axis of the drilled ball (post drilling low RG axis) more than 6 3/4" from the bowler's PAP. Because of the movement of the low RG axis after drilling, I use 5 3/4" pin to PAP as max.

Drilling high track bowlers with pin to PAP distance > 4 3/4" can pull the track up on the holes, but won't reverse the flare until you exceed 5 3/4".
Does any of this match up to how it's layed out.

I have the original LT-48 (just got Johnny to sign it), but prior to using it I threw it. I threw a full roller. of course I never throw a full roller.

I have an old Manhattan rubber I took out just for the heck of it. threw it and also a full roller.

odd .
