What are the reasons for the open hand in the backswing

Post by ward845 »

Mo what are the reasons behind the open hand in the backswing? I was looking at a turbo grips poster and 95 percent of the exempt players have an open hand.

Good poster to look at. For right handers (mirror image for left handers), you want the hand on the left half of the ball at the top of the swing. From there you are turning into the center of mass of the ball, NOT past it. If your hand is on the right half of the ball at the top of the swing, you can't turn it. You must grab it and throw it. Not enough energy is transferred to the ball. You want the center of mass of the ball in front of your hand, NOT along side of it.
