Drifting and targeting, and ETT

Post by ads »

When we end up sliding to the same board of setup, or even drifting a few boards to the non bowling side, the target (e.g. the arrow) will be further away from the bowling arm at the foul line. So if we throw the ball to the same target, the ball will go further left or right. Is this against the concept of everything towards target (ETT)?

So, should we target a board or 2 further inside when set up to eliminate the drifting effect?

It depends, if the ball remains in the swing plane/slot from address to release and the head remains quiet then no adjustment should be necessary for the non ball side drift.

If your lateral movement is consistent, then subtract it from your stance position, For example, assuming a 6 board ankle to ball displacement, and a 3 board lateral movement to the non bowling arm side, and you want to go straight up ten, you would stand on 16(DISPLACEMENT)-3(LATERAL MOVE TO THE INSIDE)=13 and slide on 16. You are still square to your target line. If your Lateral move is to the outside, then you ADD the Lateral move to the starting position, for example, let's go with a displacement of 6, but this time the bowler walks 2 boards to the outside. The numbers work out as 16 + 2 =18 for your stance and your lateral movement places your foot at 16 at the foul-line.
