Hips in the way of swing - Lady

Got a lady bowler with wide hips & narrow shoulders. How do you get her to stop bringing the ball around her hip? Is the remedy to have her "tilt" her body toward the ball swing side far enough to clear her hip? If she stands up to any degree the ball/arm will not get past her hip.

1) Increasing her lateral spine tilt will help.

This may help more:

1) Have her assume her address position with the ball side foot dropped back as shown in the attachment below.(notice right foot is also slightly open)

2) Next, have her set her hips and upper body along that line.

3) With the hips and upper body set more open at address, she should have more room for the swing back and through.

Drill:

1) Have her set-up in this address position without a ball.

2) Then simulate a push away, backswing and follow through.

3) By turning the hips open makes the body slimmer (ask any photographer) and creates more room for the swing.

4) Now give her the ball and repeat the exercise.

5) It's extremely important that during her approach, the ball and ball side foot move together.

6) If we step then push the ball forward, our body will be in the way of the back swing.

7) The first step (4 step bowler) needs to go in front of left foot (right handed bowler), this will provide additional clearance for the back swing past the hip. (see attachment)
