Need some help on getting an stronger Release

Post by Shoxxx »

hi, i work a lot on my physics and my timing starts to get right.
But my release is too weak at the moment. I didn't get under the ball, to roll it more.

If anyone could help me, i would be very grateful.

You don't need to get under the ball more or roll it more.

Looking at your hand position entering the release area it is not loaded therefore there is nothing to unload.

See attachment below.

From slide 1 to slide 2 your hand moves through the ball with minimal rotation.

Your ball has a small change of direction down lane due to the low axis rotation during release.

Standing up through release (slide 3) does nothing to make your release stronger.

A strong release is a by-product of loading and unloading the hand during release.

Now let’s look at the slide release sequence of Ronnie and Sean.

Both have their hand in a loaded position .(wrist cocked to the left) entering the release area

Both unload this angle rapidly prior to release.

It is the load and unloading (wrist cock) that strengthens (ads rev rate) to their release.

Look at the slide showing your hand position during your back swing.

You have some wrist cock at this point, this is a good thing.

Unfortunately, by the time you reach the release are this wrist cock is gone.

So in order to strengthen your release to improve you need to work on maintaining your wrist cock to the point of release. Just like Ronnie and Sean.

Start by assuming your finish at the foul line.

Let your arm and ball hang straight down.

Cock your wrist to the left.

Swing your arm back slowly about a foot (keep eyes on the swing), maintaining wrist cock.

Swing forward slowly (keep your eyes on the hand at all times) un-cock your wrist and release the ball.

This drill is to be done slowly…back and through….only about a foot in each direction.

The goal being to feel the wrist go from cocked to un-cocked.

Once you become proficient with this drill, back up and drill the same drill adding a slide step and release.

If you can’t perform this drill stationary and with a one step drill…….it probably isn’t going to happen in your full approach.
