looking to improve a 240 average bowler

Post by spr3wr »

Yes this is correct a 240 league bowler last yr(236 the yr before ). I say he turns pro, money doesn't allow him to. Any tips or advice on improving his game or how to turn pro without a lot of $$$.We have been working on his pushaway trying to keep more inline with his head. Ive told him about the backup drill to keep his swing closer to his body.

How does someone get sponsorship from a ball company?

Pretty good game. Stable upper body. Future work should focus on the lower body. More knee continuation will increase the flat spot. Getting the right toe on the ground in the follow thru will guarantee the height of the hips during the entire release and follow thru. This is where Jim excels. Let's see what his input is. I really like his six steps. I believe the lane condition contributes to the 240 average. What do you think?

Comments:
1) 70% of my video lessons are from the side view!
2) Six step approach matches bowler make-up.
3) Pace of the footwork looks good
4) TOO much effort at the point of release! Pins are not on the ceiling
5) Average established on recreational patterns.
6) I like the upper body stability and the tilt of the spine throughout the approach.
7) The young man next to you needs a better fit and more upper body tilt.

Evaluation:
1) As you are already aware the ball needs to be in front ot the head in slide 4 (yellow)
2) Backswing is traveling outside the head, inside the head and outside on the way down.
(Solution coming up later)
3) At the point of release the ball is almost a ball away from the slide ankle. The hand
is positioned on the outside of the bowling ball (90* axis rotation - slide11)
4) The position of the follow through in slide 12 is a result of the ball / hand position in slide 11.
This coupled with a violent motion UPWARD. Flamingo spotted in slide 12.
5) Slides A-E shows the circular motion of your backswing around the head. Head over the ball throughout the approach.

Cure:
1) Develop a sliding hinge motion for ball placement in slide 4.
2) Work on rotating your hand counterclockwise during slides A-E.
3) Goal is to get the hand on the inside of the ball at the top.
(reference slides F versus G)
4) From the top down keep the left arm closer to the body (easier with the hand on the
inside of the ball.
5) Work on less axis rotation at release (reference slide H)

Overall a lot of athleticism, just need to work on the hinge and keeping the head over
the ball throughout the approach for starters.

Jim
