Video Analysis

Post by MDD »

Hi Jim, here are two videos of my approach. I have been working on getting more behind the ball (but it always seems to kick my swing to the left of my head), late timing, keeping a straighter elbow in my swing. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help! -Max

Max,
I don’t really see timing as the issue in your game.

Back view:
1) In B3 the ball position is still in front of your head (red circle)
2) In B4 the ball is being swung away from the body to avoid collusion and its position is outside your head.
3) In B5 as the swing nears the top the ball is in line with your head
4) In B6 as the swing starts down the swing path continues left which moves the ball further left of your head.
5) The downswing will be left to right to avoid collusion with your lower body.

Side view:
1) In S5 I’m not seeing enough torso rotation. At the top of the swing, I like to see the entire chest facing the camera.
2) Also keep the left arm elevated and pointing down lane as well.

I see none of the above caused by trying to keep the hand more behind the ball….but rather a swing that works around your body both back and through as the culprit.

Solution:
1) A swing that moves more North and South, North being the pin deck and South the foul line.
2) Let’s start by increasing your lateral spine tilt right at address.
3) Then move your ball position further right at address, in between the head and right shoulder.
4) Move it straight forward and focus on keeping the ball under your right shoulder going back….use video to monitor this, don’t trust your feel.

In your physical game the ball needs to be in front of the shoulder after placement in order for your
swing to move back and forth under the shoulder.

The swing needs to be straight back and through before focusing on getting the hand more behind the ball.
