I am a beginner bowler. Started bowling a year ago. I am 38. At my first league last fall, I used a polyester ball, produced an average of 130. At my second league this spring I bought a reactive resin ball and started hooking watching YouTube videos. Produced an average of 160.
I have taken serious liking to this game and want to improve.
I lack consistency. I tend to miss my target mostly to the right. I generate low rev and small hook with my action. Even though I hit the pocket quite often, most of those do not produce a strike.
I have posted my bowling video and would appreciate any feedback to improve my game.
Thank you for your time and effort and I greatly appreciate this website that helps bowlers at various levels improve their game.

Coaches Thomas and Jim,
Thanks a ton for your feedbacks. Your observations and suggested corrections are much appreciated. I am looking forwards to try it out on the lanes.
On the delivery in my back view, I had hit my target. But does it suggest anything at all as to why I mostly miss my target to the right ?
Thanks again.
Video analysis to help improve my game please. Thank you.

Hi,
over all not a bad game.
You should hold the ball in stance closer to your body. lean more over the ball that the ball is under your chin. Keep this position during the whole approach. The most weight of the ball should lay in the left hand to relax the right hand and arm. Do not push the ball up and far away. Bring it slightly forward and let it fall into a free swing.

Hi and welcome to the site.
I will follow up on Thomas’s excellent advice with some pictorial images.
At address the ball is held too far from your body (see S1 for reference).
In S2 you can see that the ball moves forward faster than your first step……this early movement of the ball leads to the ball getting too far from your body by the time your first step is completed in S3. The ball moving faster than the feet also makes your feet move slow at the start and mechanical.
My suggestion is to move the ball closer to your body at address (see slide C1)
At the completion of your first step key on keeping your right elbow closer to your body.(this in turn will keep the ball closer to your body).
From here to your second step just allow the right arm to unfold and the ball arc downward.
Do not extend the ball any further away from your body.
Here is a good drill to practice keeping the right elbow close to your body during ball placement and also develop a feeling for a freer swing:

There is a series of books, "Steps to Success".
Jim's post's on this forum all all "Steps to Success".
They are, first a lesson to the bowler and a lesson to those would be an instructor.
It takes talent to know what should be said at given stages of a bowlers development, Jim has that knack.
Often times his remedy results in fixing more than what was directly indicated.
One of the difficult tasks is knowing what can be left unsaid.
Wise ones have said Success is a Journey, not a destination.
Jim lights the road along that journey.
To all who have benefited, remember to follow up with how Jim's remedies have helped.
Bowlers, consider maintaining an archive of your videos. You can use that to track your progress and to bust future slumps. Remember that video is a powerful tool. Example, a pitchers slump, might be a subtle change in arm slot, release point, stride and so on.
So retain your history, the good, bad, and ugly.
