shoulder and arm not staying aligned on first step

Post by jamesusf » June 23rd, 2020, 4:45 pm

I am 43 years old and have been bowling since I was eight. I had some good basics as a kid, but as the bowling balls became more advanced, I started playing more inside. However, this brought with it bad habits and improper alignment. I've been focusing on the better alignment and better launch angles, but I struggle with keeping my arm and shoulder aligned as I move forward to the initial crossover step. When I crossover, my right shoulder wants to go forward as well. I've watched a few pros and they seem to not only keep their shoulders still, they open them up on the subsequent steps. Is this a natural movement or does this take practice to break the biomechanical aspect? I'm averaging 220 on THS but only 185 on sport shots and want to improve.
