We use this term to imply we are either afraid of an opponent or the opponent is afraid of us.
Why should that be in bowling where the opponent is not allowed to physically harm us or interfere with our delivery of a shot?
Naturally there are times when we feel we are better than the opponent and times when we feel the opponent is better than us but where does the term intimidation come into play?
Maybe we should define the term so we all know what we mean when we use it.

Re: Intimidation
Only time I can really see something intimidating involved in bowling would be if I were bowling the likes of a WRW or Wes Malott. Just knowing how great that individual is would be the only thing I can think of as Intimidating but i'm also 6'4.

Re: Intimidation
The best form of intimidation is a fast start in my opinion.
Getting max carry at 3 strikes to start the match, can really put some early heat on your opponent, puts you in a great position, and loosens you up.

Re: Intimidation
# intimidation - bullying: the act of intimidating a weaker person to make them do something
# intimidation - the feeling of discouragement in the face of someone's superior fame or wealth or status etc.
# intimidation - the feeling of being intimidated; being made to feel afraid or timid
# intimidation - determent: a communication that makes you afraid to try something
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
The second definition listed here fits bowling intimidation.
When applying this tactic in bowling non verbal methods are best suited...Make good shots and act like you have been there before.....Only strong willed bowlers will hold up.....Well lucky ones could alter this course and reverse the tactic.....lol

Re: Intimidation
I almost never feel intimidated cause I believe is me against the pins, never against somebody else, if you try to beat the other person and focus on his game more than your own 9 times out of 10 you will lose, only focus on what you can control is how I approach my league every week.

Re: Intimidation
I believe I heard this quote in a movie about golf, but it's also true in bowling.
"It ain't you against him. It's only you versus old man Par, and if you don't remember that - you're beat before you pick up a stick."

That sounds like "The Legend of Bagger Vance". Isn't that the name of the movie with Will Smith as the caddie for Matt Damon. Awesome movie!!
