"The International Art of Bowling (IAB) was established in August 2010 by “Bowling Artists” Ron Hoppe, Jason Belmonte, and Diandra Asbaty. It’s a one-of-a-kind bowling experience focusing on an artistic representation of fundamentals, lane play, equipment, and versatility. Ron Hoppe is the founder of IBPSIA, was its first president and recipient of the Light House and President Awards, and has been a USBC Gold Coach for 10 years. Ron talks to us about the International Art of Bowling , and what sets it apart from other coaches. Ron talks about the no nonsense approach that the IAB takes, and why the events are a great time."

Ron would definitely be on the list. He is the total package! Tip of the cap to Ron for paying homage to Dick Ritger!
Give the Podcast a listen, I think it will be time well spent. The Podcast is a tad under 25 minutes.

P.S. Included the cover of Ron's book.

"Ron Hoppe is the founder of IBPSIA." Not entirely true! He was one of a group of people who founded IBPSIA.

Mo, I sent Joe a PM regarding your assertion. The text appears as a companion to the Podcast on above180 - It was posted by the site Admin on September 17, 2011.

Hopefully they will correct the oversight.

What was the process that founded IBPSIA and who were all of the parties involved?

This is the information provided by IBPSIA on their own website ( http://www.ibpsia.com/about.asp ):

IBPSIA from the Begining to the Present
The original idea for creating a pro shop organization came from Larry Cook.
The first meeting was held November 1990 in Reno.
The pro shop people who attended were:

Larry Cook, Boise, ID
Terry Larsen, Renton, WA
Ron Hoppe, Marysville, WA
Steve Schlect, Anchorage, AK
Jim Burns, Port St Lucie, FL
Gordon Fitzgerald, Roy, UT
Jim Schumacher, San Jose, CA

Also attending were David Neer and Sue Haws from Neer and Company. Neer and Company were hired as the first mangement company.

Also attending as invited advisors were:

Joyce Ditech
Jerry Koenig

The first President was Ron Hoppe who served a two year term.

All Pro Shops joining IBPSA the first year (1991) are considered charter members.

The first Convention, Trade Show and Educational Seminars were held in August 1991 at the Sahara in Las Vegas.

Sue Haws and Company were hired in 1993 to manage IBPSA.

IBPSA was changed to IBPSIA (the second I to include Instructors) in 1993 at the Trade Show in Orlando.

The first certification manual was written in 1994. Ebonite contributed $20,000 for this project.

The first certification class was held in 1995.

IBPSIA is now the Gold Standard for bowling pro shop operation and education in the world.

As a historian, the above is historically accurate
jpj6780 wrote:IBPSIA is now the Gold Standard for bowling pro shop operation and education in the world.
As a philosopher, the above is a value statement and depending on the criteria use to evaluate the "standard", it may or may not be true. The historical truth does not neccessarily grant validity to the value statement.

IBPSIA has standardized the language used in the pro shop domain and it did set a standard but whether it is the "gold standard" is an open question.

I made the mistake including that information without checking the IBPSIA site.
The information was there for the having.

Mea Culpa
